Rams spank Pungo

AHOSKIE – Ridgecroft maintained an excellent mark inside the Tarheel Independent Conference here Monday.

The Rams rolled to an 18-0 win over Pungo Christian Academy behind the two-hitter tossed by Andy Daughtridge and Josh Morris.

Ridgecroft wasted little time getting on the scoreboard, plating one run in the top of the first to take an early lead from which they never looked back.

Matthew Jones singled, went to second on a Gavin Mizelle walk and advanced to third on a free pass issued to Neal Howard. Jones then scored when Daughtridge was walked with the bases loaded to make it 1-0.

The Rams added four in the bottom of the second stanza.

Bryan Britton doubled to right and scored on a Jones single to the same field. Jones moved to second on the throw home and then scored on a Haynes Joyner RBI-single to left field. Joyner went to second on a Mizelle single

Howard plated Joyner with an RBI-single to center which moved Mizelle to third. Dustin Baker plated Mizelle with an RBI-groundout that made it 5-0.

The Rams added six in the bottom of the third.

Tony Barrick walked, Dillon Lowe singled and Britton singled to load the bases. The first two runners scored on a Jones two-run single which sent Britton to third. Jones stole second before a Mizelle RBI-single scored Britton and sent Jones to third.

Jones and Mizelle scored on a Howard two-RBI single to left field.

Howard went to second on the throw home, advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on a balk to make it 11-0 after three innings.

The Rams added seven in the bottom of the fourth frame.

Jeremy Courtright had a two-run single and scored on a wild pitch. Barrick had a three-run double and Lowe delivered an RBI-double to make it 18-0.

Daughtridge went three innings for the win, allowing a single hit. Morris threw the final two innings, also allowing one hit.

The Rams put together a 15-hit performance led by Jones, who had three hits and as many RBIs.

Mizelle and Lowe each have two hits while Barrick had a hit and three RBIs.

Ridgecroft is 8-2 overall and 6-2 inside the TIC after the victory.
