WINDSOR – Courtney Dunlow tossed a two-hitter and the Lady Falcons pounded out 11 hits here Friday.

Those two combined helped Bertie High School secure an 11-0 Northeastern Coastal Conference victory over archrival Hertford County.

&uot;Courtney started off slow, but settled down and pitched a good game,&uot; Bertie coach Jackie Copeland said. &uot;The whole team hit the ball well.

&uot;I have a lot of respect for Hertford County as they showed a positive effort and attitude in today’s game,&uot; she added.

The Lady Falcons opened the scoring with three runs in the bottom of the first frame.

Christie Brown singled and went to second on an Abby Parker RBI-groundout. After Brittany Hoggard walked, both runners scored on a Carla Cooper two-RBI triple. Cooper scored on an error on the same play to give BHS a 3-0 advantage.

In the second inning, the Falcons added a run when Brown walked, went to second on a wild pitch, stole third and scored on a Parker RBI-single to make it 4-0.

Bertie plated three in the third to push the advantage to 7-0.

Allyson Hoggard doubled before Dunlow walked. The two runners advanced on a wild pitch and scored when Holly Cowand laced a two-run single to center. Cowand went to second on the throw home and scored on an error on the play.

BHS added two in the bottom of the fourth frame.

Parker singled to left and scored on an error on the play. Brittany Hoggard then singled, went to second on a wild pitch, stole third and scored on an error to make it 9-0.

The final two runs of the contest came in the fifth. Brown delivered a two-run triple that ended the game.

Dunlow went five innings on the mound for the win. She allowed no runs on two hits and struck out 10. Amber Matthews suffered the loss for Hertford County.

Brown and Parker each had two hits to lead Bertie. HCHS had a hit each from Brittney Wilder and Lauren Barmer.

The win boosted Bertie to 10-3-1 overall and 4-2 inside the league. They will host Northeastern Thursday at 4 p.m.

The loss dropped the Lady Bears to 0-4 in the conference. They will host Currituck at 4 p.m. Tuesday.
