AHOSKIE – Steven Brown and Brian Leary combined to pitch a two-hitter Wednesday night as Edenton beat Hertford County 11-0.

The Aces, who kept the Bears winless in the Northeastern Coastal Conference, opened the scoring with three runs in the top of the first inning.

Landon Jordan had an RBI-single, Broc Sutton an RBI-triple and Leary added a sacrifice fly to account for the scoring.

Edenton put two more marks across in the top of the third thanks to a two-run homer by Sutton that made it 5-0.

Brown hit a three-run bomb in the top of the fifth frame to make it 8-0 after five innings.

The Aces scored their final three runs in the top of the sixth to take an 11-0 lead.

Hertford County threatened in the bottom of the sixth when Travis Ellis reached on an error and went to second on a Richard Burns sacrifice bunt.

Ellis got to third on a Ryan Matthews infield single, but was stranded after a groundout ended the game.

HCHS catcher Jake Dunlow threw out two baserunners on the night and had the Bears’ only other hit with a single to right in the second stanza.

Matthews went five innings on the mound, suffering the loss. Burton tossed the final inning.

HCHS dropped to 0-11 on the year and 0-3 in NCC play. They will host Currituck at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
