AHOSKIE – You better act now!

Only a few spots remain for the first major golfing event of the season as the field is filling fast for the second annual Arthur Lee Wiggins Memorial Golf Tournament.

That event, sponsored by the Ahoskie Chamber of Commerce, is set for a 1 p.m. shotgun start on Friday, April 7 at Tuscarora Greens near Winton. Last year’s inaugural tournament was a sell-out.

Those wishing to join in on a great afternoon of fun, great food and prizes are urged to immediately get in touch with the Ahoskie Chamber of Commerce by calling 332-2042.

Meanwhile, this fundraising event is not limited to just those who play golf as various sponsorships are also available.

For those wishing to play golf, there is a $200 entry fee (per four-person team). That price includes 18 holes of golf (played under Superball rules), golf cart, green fees, a golfer’s goodie bag and an awards dinner following the round.

Mulligans ($20; 1 per team member) and Tee Busters ($20; 1 per team member on any par 5) are optional purchases.

Prizes will be awarded to the 1st and 2nd place (gross and net) teams as well as for closest to the pin and longest drive.

Teams will be registered on a first-come, first-served basis.

Hole sponsorships are available at two levels – $25 and $50 (gold level). The name of the sponsors will be placed on signs and prominently displayed on the course. This is a great way to let the golfers know that you support the Ahoskie Chamber of Commerce.

Sponsors are urged to contact the Ahoskie Chamber as soon as possible. They can also mail their donations and the information they want included on the sign to the Ahoskie Chamber of Commerce, P.O. Box 7, Ahoskie, NC, 27910.

Golf participants can mail the names of their foursomes (complete with addresses and handicaps) to the aforementioned address. If the foursome has an official sponsor, the sponsor’s name, address and phone number are also required.

Other sponsorship opportunities are available. Items are needed for prizes and special drawings. Additionally, sponsors can donate small items to include in the gift packet for each golfer. These can include golf balls, tees, key chains, pens, magnets, etc.

Contact Phyllis Frymier, Executive Director of the Ahoskie Chamber, to donate an item or to obtain any additional information.

Revenue generated by the tournament, named in memory of longtime Ahoskie Chamber Director Arthur Lee Wiggins, will assist the chamber in its continuing effort to better serve its members and to encourage the economic growth of the community.

In case of inclement weather, the tournament will be moved to Friday, April 14.
