LASKER – Ridgecroft School secured a 9-1 win over Tarheel Independent Conference rival Northeast Academy here Thursday.

The TIC baseball showdown saw Gavin Mizelle and Josh Morris combine to pitch a four-hitter for the Rams.

Mizelle went four innings on the mound of Ridgecroft, giving up three hits while striking out eight as he picked up the victory.

Morris came in for the final three innings. He allowed one hit while recording five strikeouts.

The visiting Rams got on the board first as they plated three in the top of the first inning.

Matthew Jones started the Ridgecroft rally when he singled. Jeremy Courtright followed with a single before both scored on a Mizelle RBI-double. Mizelle then came around on a Neil Howard single that pushed the Ridgecroft lead to 3-0.

The Rams added another run in the top of the second stanza.

Courtright tripled to center and then scored on a Mizelle RBI-single that made it 4-0.

Northeast got their only run of the game in the bottom of the second when Jeremy Canady walked and stole second. He scored on a John Pope RBI-single that trimmed the Northeast deficit to 4-1.

The Rams continued to score when they added a run in the sixth. That mark came when Dillon Lowe reached on a two-base error and scored when Haynes Joyner reached the same way. That gave the Rams a 5-1 lead.

The top of the seventh was also good to the Rams as they plated their final four runs to establish the final margin.

Courtright and Mizelle had back-to-back singles and advanced to third and second respectively on a wild pitch.

Howard delivered an RBI-single to plate Courtright and send Mizelle to third base.

Both Mizelle and Howard scored on a Dustin Baker two-run double. Baker advanced to third on a Bryan Britton sacrifice fly and scored on a wild throw on the play.

Ryan Davis went the distance for Northeast on the mound.

Mizelle and Courtright had three hits each to lead the Rams while Pope led Northeast with two.

The Rams improved to 3-1 overall and 2-1 in the Tarheel Independent Conference. They will host TIC leader Hobgood Academy Monday at 4 p.m.

The Eagles dropped to 0-4 on the year including a 0-3 mark inside the TIC. They will host Terra Ceia Christian School on Monday at 4 p.m.
