Ruth W. Askew
BRONX, NY n Ruth Williams Askew, 48, a native of Bertie County, died February 19, 2006 at her residence.
A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Weeping Mary Baptist Church, Lewiston, by Dr. Walter Boston Jr. Wilder’s Funeral Home, Inc., Aulander, is in charge.
Mrs. Askew was a member of Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, Ahoskie, and a foster care provider in Bronx.
Survivors include her mother, Evelyn W. Brown of Ahoskie; her father, Clyde Williams of Lewiston; a daughter, Yatasha M. Williams of Bronx; sons, Montae Smalls, Jamell Williams, LaVaughan Williams, Cedric Smith and Tyrae Williams, all of Bronx; brothers, Clyde Williams Jr. of Lewiston, Albert Williams and Willie Brown III, both of Ahoskie; two sisters, Lola Harrell and Lois Cherry, both of Bronx; and two grandchildren.
COLERAIN n Evelyn Harrell, died February 16, 2006 at Albemarle Hospital, Elizabeth City.
A funeral was conducted Monday at New Holley Grove Baptist Church, Colerain. Burial was in the Harrell family cemetery. Reynolds Funeral Home, Inc., was in charge.
Survivors include her husband, the Rev. James Harrell; two sons, James E. Harrell of Colerain and Elliott N. Harrell of Middletown, CT; four daughters, Evelyn V. Harrell, Shirley Tann and Mamie Harrell, all of Colerain and Mary Harrell of Middletown; sisters, Mary Lee Freeman of Merry Hill, Johnnie Mae Mitchell of Middletown and Stevina Lewis of Brynmawr, PA; , Lela Valentine of Aulander, Lillian V. Freeman of Ahoskie and Missouri Askew of Brooklyn, NY; brothers, Theodore R. Freeman, Eddie Lee Freeman and James E. Mitchell, all of Middletown; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Vivian E. Taylor
MERRY HILL n Vivian Evans Taylor, 78, died February 21, 2006 at Pitt County Memorial Hospital. She was the widow of Willie B. Taylor.
A graveside service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday at Capehart Baptist Church Cemetery by the Revs. Tim Parker and Bruce Dayton. The family will receive friends at their home. Evans Funerals and Cremations is in charge.
Mrs. Taylor was a member of Capehart Baptist Church and the Capehart Quilting Cutups.
Survivors include a son, Donnie B. Taylor of Merry Hill; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Thelma C. Riddick
BELVIDERE – Thelma Chappell Riddick, 86, a native of Perquimans County, died February 20, 2006 at her home. She was the widow of William Thurman Riddick Sr.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in Whiteville Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. William Byrum. Inurnment will be in the church cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Whiteville Grove Church or the Belvidere-Chappell Hill Volunteer Fire Department. . Miller Funeral Home, Edenton, is in charge.
Mrs. Riddick was formerly employed as a clerk with Darden’s Department Store in Hertford and had retired as the assistant postmaster with the Belvidere Post Office. She was a member of Whiteville Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Lydia R. Malco of Point Harbor; two sons, W.T. Riddick Jr. of Franklin, Va., and Tim J. Riddick of Belvidere; two sisters, Blanche Matter of Virginia Beach and Dixie Porter of Raleigh five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Sybil M. Winslow
GATES – Sybil Monds Winslow, 76, a native of Perquimans County, died February 21, 2006, in Britthaven of Edenton. She was the widow of Charlie Noah Winslow.
Mrs. Winslow retired as office manager for Thetford Properties, Ahoskie and was a member of Reynoldson Baptist Church.
Survivors include three daughters, Sharon W. Ward and Carolyn W. Harrell, both of Gates and Charlotte W. Christian of Los Alamos, N.M.; a son, Murray Winslow of Gates; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at Mrs. Winslow’s residence. A funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Friday in Reynoldson Baptist Church by the Rev. Billy Presley. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Swindell Funeral and Cremation Services of Hertford is in charge.
Claudia M. White
SUFFOLK, Va. – Claudia Matthews White, 96, a native of Gates County, died February 20, 2006. She was the widow of Ralph E. White Sr.
Mrs. White was a member of Bethlehem Christian Church and was a retired from Lesser’s dress shop as a sales clerk.
Survivors include her son, Ralph E. White Jr. of Fayetteville; daughter, Betty W. Howard of Suffolk; four granddaughters; and five great-grandsons.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Bethlehem Christian Church by the Rev. Jonathan Palmer.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.

LEWISTON n Sherline Majette, 41, a native of Northampton County, died February 21, 2006 at her residence.
A funeral will be conducted at 12 noon Saturday at Nebo Baptist Church, Murfreesboro, by the Rev. Henry Brown of Salisbury, Md. Burial will be in the Vaughan family cemetery. A wake will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday. Hertford County Undertakers, Winton, is in charge.
Survivors include her son, Korian S. Majette of Maryland; her mother, Ellen Majette Vaughan; two brothers, Melvin Vaughan of Ahoskie and Mike Stephenson of Murfreesboro; and one sister, Teresa Vaughan of Clinton.
Primous Outlaw Jr.
MERRY HILL n Primous Outlaw Jr., died February 21, 2006 at Bertie Memorial Hospital, Windsor.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Peterson Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, Merry Hill, by the Rev. Percell Whitaker. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Reynolds Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, is in charge.
Outlaw was a member of Peterson Chapel Missionary Baptist Church.
Survivors include one son, Primous Outlaw III of Plymouth; three brothers, Larry and McCoy Outlaw, both of Baltimore, MD, and Edward Riddick of Edenton; one sister, Kathleen Pope of Ahoskie.
