Robert L. Gatling Sr.

MAPLETON n Robert Lee Gatling Sr., 63, a native of Hertford County, died February 16, 2006 at his home.

A funeral was conducted Monday at Parker’s Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. Shirley Johnson. Burial was in the Gatling family cemetery, Mapleton. Hertford County Undertakers, Winton, was in charge.

Survivors include his wife, Catherine P. Gatling; five sons, Ronnie Gatling of Woodland, Robert L. Gatling Jr. of Tillery, Joseph Lee Gatling Sr., Chester E. Gatling and Darrell Gatling, all of Murfreesboro; four daughters, Lucy A. Gatling and Vashtie D. Gatling, both of Ahoskie, Shirley G. Rankins and Sadie M. Gatling, both of Murfreesboro; his stepmother, Lina T. Gatling; sisters, sisters and brothers, Oris C. Gatling of Franklin, Va., Shirley Johnson, Cynthia D. Stephenson and Angela Gatling, all of Murfreesboro, Gloria Eure of Gates County and Maretha Gatling of Florida; 18 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Timothy Baylor Sr.

WINDSOR n Bishop Chief Apostle Timothy Lloyd Baylor Sr., a native of Baltimore, Md., died February 17, 2006 at his home.

A funeral will be conducted at 12 noon Saturday at Tabernacle The Pillar of Fire, 937 Hwy. 13-17B, Windsor. A visitation will be held at the church from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday. Cherry’s Funeral Home, Windsor, is in charge.

Robert Jenkins Jr.

AULANDER – Robert “Bobby” Henry Jenkins, Jr., age 68, died at home on Sunday, February 19, 2006. Mr. Jenkins was a native of Bertie County and a member of Connaritsa Baptist Church. He was a dedicated farmer in both Bertie and Hertford Counties. Mr. Jenkins will be remembered most for being a loving father and grandfather. He is preceded in death by his mother, Barbara Vick Jenkins and his father, Robert Henry Jenkins, Sr.

Survivors include his daughter, Kim Jenkins and her husband, Greg, his son Bob Jenkins and his wife, Debbie, all of Aulander, NC; his sister, Margaret Dare Jenkins of Ahoskie, NC; and four grandchildren, Derek, Cody, Jordy, and Logan Jenkins.

Graveside services will be conducted on Wednesday, February 22, 2006 at 2 PM at the Jenkins Family Cemetery on Dunning Road in Aulander, NC. with the Rev. Alan Mizelle officiating.

The family will receive friends at anytime at the home of Robert “Bobby” Jenkins, Jr.

Memorial contributions may be made to University Hospice, 521 West Myers Street, Ahoskie, NC 27910 or a charity of your choice.

Arrangements are being handled by Sykes Funeral Service of Rich Square, NC.

Onnie Cockrell Jr.

WILSON n Onnie R. Cockrell Jr., 90, Wilson died Sunday.

A funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church by Dr. Douglas Murray and Rev. Tom Riley. Burial will be in Marsh Swamp FWB Church Cemetery.

Cockrell began his teaching and coaching career at Lewiston-Woodville School in Bertie County in 1940-1941. He was drafted into the Army in July of 1941. Following the US Declaration of War in December 1941. Onnie served for 39 months throughout European Theater. Upon America’s victory in World War II, he was discharged and resumed his educational duties as principle and coach at Lewiston-Woodville School.

Survivors include his wife, Ann Cowan Cockrell; and a daughter, Patricia Ann.

The family received friends Monday at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway. The family is asked to meet in the Fellowship Hall of First Baptist Church at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday prior to the service.
