AHOSKIE – Signups for the 2006 Ahoskie Recreation Department baseball and softball season will begin March 1.

The signup period will continue from then until March 31.

There will be several changes for the 2006 season.

The baseball leagues will play in full compliance with the Tar-Heel League, Inc. rules.

The age divisions for the 2006 will be:

* Tee-Ball will be ages five and six;

* Coach-Pitch is for seven and eight-year-olds;

* Midget League will be fore nine and 10-year-olds;

* Little League is for 11-12-year-olds;

* Junior League is for 13-15-year-olds.

Midget League will use the pitching machine once a week during the game season.

There will be two divisions for girl’s softball. Ages nine to 11 will play Junior Softball and ages 12 to 14 will play Senior Softball.

All ages are &uot;league ages&uot; which means that age attained prior to May 1 of the season. For example, a player who is 10, but turns 11 on or before April 30 will have a &uot;league age&uot; of 11.

There will be no uniform rentals. Cost of a hat and jersey will be $15 and they will be the property of the player.

Registration will remain $15 for in-town residents and $25 for those outside of town. The total costs will be $30 for in-town residents and $40 for those outside town.

Pants are required for coach pitch through junior league and may be purchase separately.
