MURFREESBORO – Hertford County Sheriff Juan Vaughan considers Otis Leon Dickerson as an extremely dangerous person.

Shortly past midnight on Saturday, Dickerson, 22 of 112 Top Street in Murfreesboro, allegedly entered the home of his parents, struck his father in the chest and robbed his mother, at gunpoint, of $80 in cash.

What was more upsetting to the Sheriff was the fact that as the mother was making an effort to flee her son following the robbery, he apparently chased her at which time Vaughan thinks Dickerson was attempting to discharge a handgun.

“From the information we obtained, the mother said she heard clicking sounds behind her,” Sheriff Vaughan reported. “We are assuming the son was attempting to fire the handgun which he had in his possession during the robbery.”

Dickerson (aka “Man”) is described as medium skin black male, standing approximately 6’-1” and weighing approximately 140 pounds. He has brown eyes and black hair in dreadlocks.

He was last seen wearing a black coat with what Vaughan described as having NASCAR type racing emblems, blue jeans and white tennis shoes.

Dickerson is reportedly operating a champagne colored Toyota Four Runner. He is known to hang out in the Ahoskie-Cofield area.

A warrant has been drawn for Dickerson’s arrest on the charge of robbery with a dangerous weapon. Sheriff Vaughan said other charges are pending.

The Sheriff added that Dickerson has a prior arrest record.

“We are considering the suspect as armed and extremely dangerous,” Vaughan noted. “If he will do this to his parents….well that’s all I want to say about that particular situation.”

Sheriff Vaughan said his office received a call from the mother at approximately 12:45 a.m. on Sunday.

“She said she and her husband were asleep in the bedroom of their residence when their son entered the room, struck and father in the chest with his fists and then demanded money,” Sheriff Vaughan reported.

He continued, “The mother said she got out of bed and gave her son all the money ($80) that was in the house. She said her son was cursing the entire time and was very angry.”

The report further revealed that as Dickerson was turning to rip the phone line from the wall, the mother fled out the backdoor of the residence.

“She was attempting to run to a neighbor’s residence at which time the son also exited the backdoor and began to chase his mother,” Vaughan noted. “It was during that foot chase where the mother reported hearing the clicking sounds.”

The Sheriff reported that when the son finally overtook his mother, he told her, “you have two minutes to get to the road.”

“It was at this time that the neighbor opened their door and Dickerson took off running in another direction,” the Sheriff said.

Hertford County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Mike Stephenson is the lead investigator in the case.
