AHOSKIE – Don’t look now, but the swagger may be back.

After suffering a highly unusual Tarheel Independent Conference loss two weeks ago, Ridgecroft has rolled off five straight wins and now sits atop the league with a 5-1 mark.

Wednesday evening the Lady Rams put three in double figures as they rolled to a 50-30 TIC victory over league foe Albemarle School.

&uot;We’re executing better on offense,&uot; veteran RHS skipper Doug Cobbs said of his team’s play of late. &uot;We’re taking the ball to the basket and pushing it up the floor.&uot;

Junior Jo Revelle Murray led the way for the Lady Rams, hitting for 12 points while senior Sarah Beth Greene and sophomore Hayes Bryant chipped in 11 points each.

The Rams started strong Wednesday night as they scored the first 10 points of the game and took a 10-0 lead into the second period.

Greene started the spurt with a field goal almost four minutes into the contest. She had four of her 11 in the first quarter as did Bryant. Stephanie Northcott had the other first quarter hoop.

Albemarle’s Jessi Plumblee got the Lady Colts on the board at the 6:35 mark of the second period when she hit a field goal and converted the free throw from being fouled.

Murray responded with a three-pointer on the Rams’ next trip down the court. That was followed by a field goal from April Piland to give Ridgecroft a 15-3 lead.

Plumblee hit another shot at the 4:49 mark, but Murray answered with a triple to push the advantage to 18-5.

The Rams pushed the edge to 22-7 at the half when Greene hit a pair of hoops in the final two and a half minutes of the first half.

Ridgecroft poured in 16 points in the third quarter, sparked by a triple from Bryant and consecutive field goals from Murray.

The Rams rolled to a 38-18 advantage during the period and claimed the 20-point victory.

&uot;In the first half tonight, I thought we were superb on defense,&uot; Cobbs said. &uot;In the third quarter, we were okay. In the fourth, I was disappointed in our offensive execution and our defensive intensity.

&uot;As I told them in the locker room, you have to finish the deal,&uot; he added.

The Rams improved to 8-4 on the year with the victory and hosted rival Lawrence Academy Friday. They will be back in action Tuesday when Pungo Christian Academy pays a visit.
