WINDSOR – Commissioners in Windsor will continue their roles.

Mayor Bob Spivey made departmental appointments during Thursday morning’s meeting of the Windsor Board of Commissioners, asking each board member to continue the roles they’ve held in recent years.

&uot;Is anyone unhappy with their present appointment,&uot; Spivey asked. &uot;The employees and department heads seem to be happy with the current working relationships.&uot;

All commissioners indicated they were satisfied with their current appointments and agreed to continue their service.

Commissioner Jimmy Hoggard will continue to serve as Mayor Pro-Tempore as well as being responsible for Electric Department and Electricities as well as the Downtown Revitalization Committee, according to the mayor.

Other commissioner appointments included:

* Commissioner O. Wint Hale will serve as the representative to the Mid-East Commission as well as being in charge of water and parks;

* Commissioner Charles W.D. Fulk will remain on the Historic Properties Commission and will handle cemeteries and Administration/Finance;

* Commissioner Hoyt Cooper was charged with Streets/Storm Sewer/Sanitation, public buildings and the Highway 17 Association;

* Commissioner Bobby Brown will continue to serve as head of police and fire departments as well as sanitary sewer/waste treatment and beautification.

Spivey said he would continue serving as the voting member of the Mayor and Commissioners Association and the Windsor Town Development Commission.

In other business, the Board:

* agreed to support a letter by May V. Robertson asking the North Carolina Department of Transportation to put a stoplight at the intersection of King Street and Dundee Street. Spivey said the issue had been studied two times before and DOT had indicated traffic was not sufficient to add the light, but said he believe the board should support the resolution. They did so on a motion by Fulk which was seconded by Cooper and passed unanimously;

* tabled a request to demolish a home located at 104 H Bond Street;

* approved changes to the franchise agreement with Mediacom; and

* promoted Detective Herman Purvis to Lieutenant, making him the highest-ranking officer under Windsor Police Chief Rodney Hoggard.
