WINDSOR – An early morning search for illegal drugs has resulted in the arrest of a Colerain man.

Late last week, agents with the Narcotics Division of the Bertie Sheriff’s Office arrested Eric Darnell Moore, 30, of 144 Harrell Road, Colerain, after a search of his home revealed approximately 1.5 ounces of cocaine and small amounts of marijuana.

A further search of the premise turned-up a 2000 Yama motorcycle, reported stolen from the Washington, D.C. area.

It was discovered in the backyard of the residence, hidden under an old swimming pool cover.

Harrell was charged with possession with intent to sale and deliver cocaine, trafficking in cocaine by possession, maintaining a dwelling as a place to keep, store and sell cocaine and possession of a stolen vehicle.

He was incarcerated in the Bertie-Martin Regional Jail under a $75,000 bond.

After receiving information from a concerned citizen that alleged Moore was dealing cocaine from his home, Narcotics Division agents, Detective Sgt. Frank Timberlake and Kenny Gilliam, conducted surveillance on the residence. They compiled the information from that surveillance along with information from the informant in order to apply for and receive a search warrant for the residence of Eric Moore.

A search was conducted at the home at approximately 11:30 p.m. on Jan. 5. Moore was at the residence at the time the search warrant was served. The home was also occupied by his wife and a minor daughter.

After being read the search warrant, Moore voluntarily directed law enforcement officers to the cocaine, acknowledging that it was his dealings and not his families.

“Once again, our Narcotics Division is to be commended for the hours of work they put in on making a successful drug arrest,” Greg Atkins, Bertie Sheriff, said. “I hope the citizens of Bertie County realize the importance of an active drug enforcement unit. These men spend a great number of hours away from their families in order to protect and serve the citizens of Bertie.”

The Sheriff closed by saying, “We will continue our efforts in drug eradication here in Bertie County. We continue to ask for the help of our citizens. As it was in this case, a citizen’s tip led to the surveillance of the residence, which, in turn, led to an arrest.”
