Eagles soar to win

BELHAVEN – Both boys’ teams at Northeast Academy remain perfect in the league.

The Eagles swept Pungo Christian Academy Wednesday night as both the varsity boys and jayvee team moved to 2-0 inside the Tarheel Independent Conference.

In the varsity boy’s contest, NEA raced to a 20-8 first quarter lead and never looked back as they secured a 69-40 victory.

The Eagles had 10 players score in the contest, including putting three in double figures. They were Brian McLean (15), Buddy Duke (12) and Dustin Deloatch (11).

After scoring 20 in the first quarter, the Eagles put 27 on the board in the second period and led 47-18 at the intermission. After halftime, Northeast scored 16 in each of the final periods to secure their victory.

Defensively the Eagles gave up no more than 13 points in a quarter and that came in the fourth period.

The seven other players who scored for Northeast included Drew Pinnix, John Pope, Ryan Davis, Jeremy Canady, Brodie Harrell, Josh Jenkins and Chase Vaughan.

Pungo was led by Joey Ohrer with 10 points.

The victory saw Northeast improve to 7-3 on the year.

In the junior varsity boy’s contest, Northeast secured a 43-19 victory thanks in part to 11 points from Greg Canady.

The j.v. Eagles are 6-2 overall.
