Louise H. Taylor

ROANOKE RAPIDS n Louise Hudson Taylor, a native of Roanoke Rapids, December 3, 2005. She was the widow of Atwell Tildon Taylor.

Mrs. Taylor was a 1939 graduate of Roanoke Rapids High School.

Survivors include her daughter, Cecelia T. Miller of Shady Valley, TN; her son, Michael E. Taylor of Chapel Hill; two sisters, Carolyn H. Dickens of Roanoke Rapids and Margie H. Taylor of Colerain; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

A graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids by the Rev. Tom Supplee. Askew Funeral Services in Roanoke Rapids is in charge.

Thomas J. Draper

SEABOARD – Thomas Jackson Draper, 82, died December 2, 2005.

A funeral was conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in Seaboard United Methodist Church. Massey Funeral Home, Jackson, was in charge.

Nellie M. Lodge

PORTSMOUTH, Va. – Nellie M. Lodge, 82, a native of Gates County, died November 30, 2005, in Sentara Nursing Center, Portsmouth. She was the widow of Dempsey Lodge.

Mrs. Lodge was a member of Holy Trinity Church No. 1.

Survivors include three daughters, Vera Coates of Margarettsville, Nellie Wilson of LaPlata, Md., and Lola Wilson of Chesapeake, Va.; two sons, Ernest Wilson of New York City and Rufus Wilson of LaPlata; two sisters, Pastor Madgie White of Portsmouth and Mary Johnson of Midlothian; one brother, Deacon Delbert Smith of Portsmouth; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.

A funeral was conducted Monday in St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church, Portsmouth, with Dr. Curtis E. Edmonds Sr. Burial was in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Chesapeake. Corprew Funeral Home, Portsmouth chapel, was in charge.

Hattie B. Alston

ROANOKE RAPIDS n Hattie B. Alston, 84, died December 1, 2005 at Halifax Regional Medical Center, Roanoke Rapids.

A funeral was conducted Monday at St. Luke Baptist Church, Littleton, by the Rev. Will C. Tabron. Interment was in the church cemetery. H.D. Pope Funeral Home was in charge.

Patricia Cowan

HALIFAX n Patricia Cowan, 53, died December 4, 2005 at Halifax Regional Medical Center.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete. H.D. Pope Funeral Home, Roanoke Rapids, is in charge.

Mae F. Sanford

COMO n Mae Frances Sanford, died December 4, 2005 at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Mill Neck Baptist Church, Como. A viewing will be conducted from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Reynolds Funeral Home Chapel, Ahoskie.

Survivors include one son, Joseph L. Wiggins of Como; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Sheldon Wiggins

COFIELD n Sheldon Wiggins, died December 4, 2005 at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Philippi Baptist Church by the Rev. William Lassiter. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Reynolds Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, is in charge.

Wiggins was a member of Philippi Baptist Church and a member of Mason Lodge #691.

Survivors include a son, Sheldon McCrea Wiggins of Chapel Hill; two daughters, Cassandra Clayton of Murfreesboro and Sylvia Denise Wiggins of Cofield; two sisters, Undean Jones of Cofield and Eunise Jones of Philadelphia, Pa.; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Retha B. Flythe

CONWAY n Mrs. Retha Bridges Flythe, age 93, of Virginia Beach, Va. and formerly of Northampton County, NC, went to be with the Lord, Sunday, December 4, 2005.

Mrs. Flythe was born January 3, 1912, the daughter of the late Edgar N. Bridges and Stella Jenkins Bridges. She was preceded in death by her husband, Beverly Thomas “Tom” Flythe, a daughter, Rebecca “Becky” McKinney and a son, Beverly “Tennie” Flythe. She was a member of Lasker Baptist Church.

Survivors include her children, James Earl Flythe and his wife, Virginia of Conway, NC, Ann Flythe Johnson and her husband, Lee of Virginia Beach, Va., Nell Flythe Walker of Virginia Beach, Va., Jeannie Flythe Stagg and her husband, George of Wyoming, and Janice Flythe Kirkpatrick of Suffolk, Va.; nine grandchildren, James Earl Flythe, Jr., William Flythe, Keith Flythe, Terresa Warren, Beverly Mineo, Rebecca Johnstone, Lee Johnson, Jr., Kim Byerly and Tiffany Johnson; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held, Wednesday, December 7, 2005 at 2 p.m. at Lasker Baptist Church, Lasker, NC.

The family will receive friends after the service at the church.
