Icie T. Myers

COLERAIN n Icie Todd Myers, 95, of the 500 block of Meadow Road, died Friday, December 23, 2005, in Guardian Care of Elizabeth City, surrounded by her family.

Mrs. Myers was born in Bertie County, a daughter of the late John and Mary Frances Hughes Todd and was the widow of Paul James Myers.

She was a homemaker and a member of Elm Grove Baptist Church.

Survivors include her son, Bill Myers and wife, Ann of Chesapeake, VA; a brother, Blackston Todd of Virginia Beach, VA; and grandchildren, Sherri-Lyn, James and Trenton Whitfield and Kendal and Jeremy Hulce.

A graveside service was conducted on Monday, December 26, 2005, at 3:00 p.m., at Highland Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Preston Jernigan, officiating.

Memorial donations may be made to Elm Grove Baptist Church, 638 Elm Grove Rd., Colerain, NC, 27924.

Garrett Funeral Home, Ahoskie, served the Myers family.

Mattie L. Blowe

AHOSKIE n Mattie Lassiter Blowe, 89, of the 200 block of S. Early Station Road, died Friday, December 23, 2005, in her home.

Mrs. Blowe was born in Emporia, VA, a daughter of the late Bob and Nellie Bradshaw Lassiter and was the widow of William Franklin Blowe.

She was a homemaker and a longtime member of Early’s Baptist Church and W.M.U., holding the longest membership on the church records.

Survivors include her daughters, Rachel Young and husband, Carroll of Ahoskie, NC Geraldine Bryant and husband, William of Colerain, NC; a sister, Helen Proctor Rawls of Aulander, NC; grandchildren, Donna Pittman and husband, John of Courtland, VA, Becky Cale and husband, Doug of Winterville, NC, Lisa Outlaw and husband, Scott of Ahoskie, NC; great-grandchildren, Brent Doughtie of U.S. Air Force, Germany, and step great granddaughter, Mary Frances Pittman of Courtland, VA, Jason Cale and Lauren Cale of Winterville, NC, and Brian, Blake, and Kathryn Outlaw of Ahoskie, NC.

She was predeceased by a sister, Annie Mae Ausley and a brother, Robert Lassiter.

A funeral service was conducted on Monday, December 27, 2005, at 11:00 a.m. at Garrett Funeral Home, Ahoskie, with the Rev. Ronald McSwain, officiating.

Burial followed in Ahoskie Cemetery.

The family received friends at the funeral home from 10 until 11:00 a.m. prior to services on Monday and other times at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Rachel and Carroll Young.

Dorothy C. Alston

AHOSKIE n Dorothy Copeland Alston, 76, of the 100 block of NC 561 West, died Friday, December 23, 2005, in her home.

Mrs. Alston was born in Hertford County, a daughter of the late William Joseph and Sallie Mizelle Copeland.

She was a member of Early’s Baptist Church, the Ahoskie Women’s Club and a volunteer with the Roanoke Chowan Hospital Ladies Auxiliary and the Ahoskie Food Pantry.

She was retired from the Hertford County Department of Social Services, but continued to work part time until her death.

Survivors include her husband, Jesse Curtis Alston; a daughter, Beth A. Baggett of Ahoskie; a son, Dr. Michael Alston and wife, Susan of Murfreesboro; sisters, Clarine Dilday and Hattie Rae Wiggins of Ahoskie, Grace Willis of Chesapeake, VA;

a brother, Billy Copeland and special friend, Mary Alice Hardison of Chesapeake, VA; and grandchildren, Angela Alston , Erin Alston and Bobbi Jo Baggett.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by a son-in-law, Bobby Baggett; sisters, Catherine Ktoneman and Thelma Dilday and a brother, Bobby Copeland.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 27, 2005, at 11:00 a.m. at Garrett Funeral Home, Ahoskie, with the Rev. Ronald McSwain, officiating.

Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends at the home.

Anna E. Stephenson

RICH SQUARE n Mrs. Anna Erekson Stephenson, age 90, of Autumn Care, Rich Square, NC, died December 22, 2005.

Mrs. Stephenson was born February 22, 1915 in Northampton County, NC, the daughter of the late Charles Joel Erekson and Annie Belle Sears Erekson. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James Frederick Calvin “Fred” Stephenson, a grandson, Jon Stephenson and a son-in-law, Murry Fulcher. She was, at the time of her death, the oldest member of Mount Carmel Baptist Church.

Survivors include her daughter, Jean S. Fulcher of New Bern, NC; her sons, Charles Stephenson and his wife, Evelyn of Jackson, Elliott Stephenson and his wife, Lou and Tommie Stephenson and his wife, Nancy, all of Seaboard; a half brother, the Rev. Larry Otis Pruden of Concord, NC; her grandchildren, Carolyn and Steve Fulcher of New Bern, Joey (Carla), Jeff (Melissa), James (Brooke) Stephenson, all of Seaboard, NC; Dr. Bentley Stephenson of Fayetteville, NC, Jamie Stephenson of Four Oaks, NC and Lou Anne S. Liverman (Johnny) of Wilmington, NC, Deborah S. Bryant (Mark) of Jackson, NC and Nan S. Lee (David) of Emporia, Va.; her great-grandchildren, Carly, Jon and Jenna Stephenson, Henry and Ellen Liverman, Wesley and Lindsay Bryant.

Graveside services were held Saturday, December 24, 2005 at 2 p.m. at Seaboard Cemetery, Seaboard, NC.

Arrangements were handled by Massey Funeral Home in Jackson, NC where the family received friends, Friday from 7 until 8:30 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to Mount Carmel Baptist Church.

Sarah B. Williams

Mrs. Sarah Bracy Williams, 92, died December 24, 2005, surrounded by her family.  She was preceded in death by her husband, James Robert Williams; a son, Robert Allen Williams; and seven brothers and sisters.

A native of Northampton County, Mrs. Williams was the daughter of the late William Paul and Josie Smith Bracy. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Ahoskie.

She is survived by three sons, Victor L. Williams of Ahoskie, N.C.; William B. Williams and his wife, Sandi, of Bailey, N.C.; and John F. Williams and his wife, Mary, of Palmyra, Va.; 13 grandchildren, Catherine Williams, Scott Williams, Allison Williams, Elizabeth Shook, Susan Williams, Paige Gerald, Dana Dail, Frances Clark, Keith Wilder, Tanya Lamm, Jennifer Williams, Megan Williams, and John Robert Williams; and 19 great-grandchildren.

She is also survived by a daughter-in-law, Rose Williams of Newport News, Va.; two former daughters-in-law, Lana Jo Williams of Suffolk, Va., and Martha Williams of Columbia, S.C.; and a special friend, Joan Rosser of Elizabeth City.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 27, 2005 at the Chapel of Sykes Funeral Service in Rich Square, N.C. Her grandson, the Rev. Scott Williams of Raleigh, and the Rev. Billy Presley, pastor of First Baptist Church, will officiate.

The burial will follow in the Ahoskie Cemetery in Ahoskie, NC.

The family received friends at Sykes Funeral Service from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, December 26, 2005.

Gary L. McCann

EDENTON -Gary Lee McCann, 67, a native of Johnstown, Pa., died December 23, 2005, in his home.

McCann was retired from airport maintenance with the town of Edenton, he attended Cape Colony Church of Christ and was a charter member of the Edenton-Chowan Optimist Club. In lieu of military service, he served with the Brethren Service in Hastings, Minn.

Survivors include his wife, Georgia Skinner McCann; his daughter, Cheryl McCann Byrum of Battery Park, Va.; his son, David Gary McCann of Edenton; two brothers, Robert D. McCann of Glen Burnie, Md., and twin Larry R. McCann of Johnstown; and two grandchildren.

A funeral was conducted Monday in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home, Edenton, by the Rev. Thomas Biggs. Burial followed in Beaver Hill Cemetery. Friends may join the family at the residence. Mary Emma Spivey

HOBBSVILLE – Mary Emma Spivey, 70, died December 21, 2005, in her home. She was the widow of Donald Spivey.

Ms. Spivey was a member of Warwick Baptist Church.

Survivors include her daughter, Fran Winslow of Edenton; two sons, Willie Spivey of Cuyahaga Falls, Ohio, and Tony Spivey of Greensboro; a sister, Paige Hollowell of Edenton; three brothers, Glenn Perry and Emitt Perry, both of Edenton and Ted Perry of Morresville; and four grandchildren.

Tom Hupp and Dr. Charles Jones. Burial followed in the private cemetery at the church. Evans Funerals and Cremations of Edenton were in charge.

Marginia R. Barnes

BOYKINS, Va. n Marginia R. Barnes, 84, died December 23, 2005 at her residence.

Homegoing services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday at New Bethel Baptist Church, Boykins, by Pastor Etheridge. Interment will be in Mt. Tabor Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery, Newsoms. A viewing will be held from 1 to 7 p.m. Tuesday. Faison Funeral Home, Inc., Seaboard, is in charge.

Sarah V. Alexander

MOREHEAD CITY n Sarah V. Alexander, 90, died December 24, 2005 at Harborview Health Care Center.

A graveside service will be conducted at noon Tuesday at Community Cemetery in Scotland Neck. Munden Funeral Home is in charge.

Mrs. Alexander was a member of Scotland Neck United Methodist Church.
