MURFREESBORO – A man wielding a rusty knife attempted to rob the McDonalds in Murfreesboro on Monday.

A black male wearing a mask entered the McDonalds located at 800 Main Street at roughly 5:25 pm on Monday.

“The suspect, carrying a large, rusty knife, jumped over the counter and tried to open a cash register,” Murfreesboro Police Chief Darrel Rowe said.

The McDonalds’ employees ran to the back of the store and sounded the alarm, Rowe said. The suspect, who was unable to open the register, fled the scene on foot after the alarm was sounded.

“Officers arrived at the scene within three minutes (of the alarm being sounded),” Rowe said. “No money was taken and no employees were injured.

“I believe this robbery may be related to the robbery at the Duck Thru,” Rowe said.

A black male wearing a ski mask and wielding butcher knife robbed the Duck Thru Mini Mart on 602 W. Main Street in Murfreesboro on December 9.

Rowe described the suspect from the McDonald’s robbery as a black male wearing a black toboggan, a black mask, a black T-shirt over a white T-shirt, light blue jeans and Nike Air Force One basketball shoes.

The Murfreesboro Police Department is offering a reward for the capture and conviction of the suspect.

“We feel the suspect is a local,” Rowe added. “Please call the Murfreesboro Police Department (398-4151) if you have any information. We need the public’s help.”
