Holiday wrecks claim two lives

Two people lost their lives during the Christmas holiday in Northampton County.

A Washington, D.C. woman died Monday afternoon in a single car accident near Margarettsville and a Scotland Neck man was killed Christmas Day near Rich Square.

Monday afternoon, Mamie M. Risper, 41, of Washington, D.C. was killed when the car she was operating was traveling north on R.P. 1241 (Tower Road).

According to a report filed with the North Carolina Highway Patrol, Risper was exceeding a safe speed when she ran off the right hand side of the road and struck a tree.

Risper died at the scene, according to Northampton County Emergency Management while two passengers were transported to Roanoke-Chowan Hospital

A day earlier, a Halifax County man was killed when he failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of R.P. 1118 (Griffintown Road) and N.C. 305.

According to a report from the N.C. Highway Patrol, Antonio Pablo Aparicio, 50, was traveling west in a 1997 Geo when he failed to stop for the stop sign at N.C. 305.

His vehicle collided with a 2002 Chevrolet that was traveling south.

Aparicio also died at the scene of the accident, according to NCEM.
