WINDSOR n Mary J. Watson, 73, died December 14, 2005 at Pitt Memorial Hospital, Greenville.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Indian Woods Baptist Church, Windsor. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Gilliam Funeral Home is in charge.

Betty J. Pittman

GASTON n Betty Jean Pittman, 73, a native of Halifax County, died December 15, 2005 at Halifax Regional Medical Center, Roanoke Rapids.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Massey Funeral Home, Roanoke Rapids. Burial will be in Crestview Memorial Cemetery.

Mrs. Pittman was the owner and operator of His & Hers Beauty Shop for over 25 years. She was a member of Faith Tabernacle Church.

Survivors include her husband, William F. “Buck” Pittman; her daughter, Mitzi Cahoon of Littleton; her son, Steve Pittman of Roanoke Rapids; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Roy Bond Sr.

CHESAPEAKE, Va. n Roy Lester Bond Sr., 85, a native of Bertie County, died December 14, 2005 at Maryview Hospital, Portsmouth.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Francis Baptist Church, Windsor, by the Rev. John W. White. Burial will be in the Outlaw family cemetery. Cherry Funeral Home is in charge.

Survivors include one son, Roy L. Bond Jr. of Windsor; two daughters, Marie Gibson and Judy Wiggins, both of Chesapeake; two sisters, Esther Allen of Windsor and Hattie Johnson of Washington; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Margaret Pryor

PORTSMOUTH, Va. –

Margaret Pryor, 83, a native of Jackson, died December 13, 2005, in Maryview Medical Center. She was the widow of Herman Pryor.

Mrs. Pryor was a lifetime member of New Mount Olivet Baptist Church, Portsmouth, where she served on the No. 2 Usher Board, the choir and the Pastor’s Aide Club.

Survivors include six daughters, Patricia Jimenez, Cynthia Friday, the Rev. Audrey Pryor-Mouizi and Lynn Stokley, all of Portsmouth, Vivian Robertson of Gumberry and Helen Paige of New York City; three sons, Jerome Pryor of Northern Virginia, Rickey Pryor and Michael Pryor, both of Portsmouth; a sister, Estelle Walton of New York City; 14 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Louise Johnson

SUFFOLK, Va. – Louise &uot;Lou&uot; Johnson, 63, a native of Jackson, died December 14, 2005, in her home.

Mrs. Johnson was retired. She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church, Chesapeake.. Survivors include a daughter, Babette Johnson; three sons, Randolph Johnson, Richard Johnson and Jerome Johnson; five sisters, Geneva Boone, Erma Hardy, Mary Perry, Lucy Anderson and Julie Lawrence; four brothers, Robert Lee Anderson, Johnny Anderson, Joe Lewis Anderson and Ernest Watkins; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

A funeral will be conducted at 12:30 p.m. Saturday in New Hope Baptist Church, St. Julian Creek, Chesapeake, by the Rev. Sidney Foster Jr. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake. Bessie C. Sparrow

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Bessie Aretha &uot;Rae&uot; Capehart Sparrow, died December 11, 2005.

Survivors include her stepfather, Willie L. Gilliam of Norfolk; stepmother, Patience Capehart of Colerain; daughters, Becky M. Hasberry of Temple Hills, Md., and Emma L. Bryan of Duluth, Ga.; son, George L. Sparrow III of Temple Hills; sisters, Gloryies Gilliam, Ruby Gilliam of Norfolk, Willie Mae Young, Doris Ridley of Virginia Beach, Cordelia Capehart of Colerain; stepsister and stepbrothers, Rosa White of Lanham, Md., Hosea Thompson of Colerain, Rosario Dupree of Far Rockaway, N.Y.; and a grandson.

Mrs. Sparrow was employed at the Norfolk Parks and Recreation Center. Following her employment at the recreation center, she became employed at the Norfolk Naval Supply Center as a supply clerk. Later, she worked as a supervisor for Portsmouth Naval Hospital, Out Patients Record Dept.

A funeral will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Queen Street Baptist Church, 413 E. Brambleton Ave., by Dr. Peter Wherry. Interment will be at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Norfolk. Family and friends will assemble at 986 Scott St., Norfolk, one hour prior to the service for the procession to the church. Margaret C. Askew

EDGEWOOD, MD. n Margaret Cofield Askew, age 58, died Wednesday, December 14, 2005, in Bel Air, Maryland. She was a native of Bertie County, the daughter of Johnny and Tiny Lassiter Cofield. She was preceded in death by her father.

Ms. Askew was previously employed by the Human Service Center in Ahoskie, as a Medical Records Secretary.

Survivors include her husband, Allen E. Askew, Jr. of Gates County; two sons, SFC Troy L. Weaver and wife, Kelly, and Allen E. Askew, III, all of Edgewood, Maryland; her mother, Tiny Cofield of Rich Square; two sisters, Sandra Wilkins of Rich Square and Joyce Bracy of Roxobel; grandchildren, Brandon and Monica Weaver.

Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, December 18, 2005 at Aulander Cemetery with the Rev. Daniel Rimel officiating. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home on Saturday evening from 7 til 8:30 p.m.
