JACKSON – A Rich Square man is learning that hog theft in North Carolina is serious business.

Kenneth Liverman, 39, of 123 Main Street in Rich Square is facing a felony charge after he was arrested in connection with the theft of swine.

According to Northampton County Sheriff Wardie Vincent, Wayne West Farms had reported more than 30 swine were missing when they did their inventory in October.

Sergeant Gerri Bowen of the NCSO investigated the matter and made the arrest this past weekend.

Vincent said each theft could be a separate charge. He indicated more charges were pending for Liverman.

The suspect posted the $2,000 secured bond.

That arrest was one of four made during the past several days.

A 16-year-old Charlotte woman, who was already in custody in the Northampton County Jail, is facing new charges.

Alicia Crystal Smith was charged with assault with a deadly weapon on a government official after an incident that happened when she was being detained on other charges.

Smith, who was facing charges related to possession of a stolen vehicle, allegedly assaulted a female Northampton County detention officer.

Vincent said Smith was in the shower when the officer told her time was up and she should come out. Smith allegedly responded she would cut the officer with her disposable razor if she made her come out.

After a few minutes, Smith left the shower, but threw some liquid at the officer once she was in her cell.

The officer returned to investigate and had the cell opened. Smith then allegedly attacked her and cut her with the razor at her hairline. Two officers were able to subdue Smith.

Sgt. Ross, who made the charges, investigated the incident.

In a separate incident, a Margarettsville man is facing breaking and entering and larceny of a motor vehicle.

Larry Donnell Britt, 25, of 1483 Tower Road was charged after Sgt. Bowen and Deputy Buford White investigated a larceny in September.

During that theft, a portable hand-held radio was taken.

Britt was arrested Saturday and is under a $1,000 secured bond in the Northampton County Jail.

The final arrest was made when a Pendleton man was charged in connection with a checkbook stolen from a Vaughan Creek Road residence near that area.

Michael Wesley Ross, 21, was charged with breaking and entering and larceny after breaking and entering. He also faces two counts of forgery of an instrument and two counts of uttering an instrument.

Vincent said the investigation is continuing and more charges could be forthcoming.

Ross was under a $20,000 secured bond, which he has posted.
