AHOSKIE – Ahoskie Christian School got their first girl’s basketball win this season here Tuesday night.

Thanks to a stifling defense, the Lady Warriors kept Emmanuel Christian off the board for two periods in a 21-15 victory.

&uot;We were able to shut them out for two quarters in a half-court trap,&uot; veteran ACS skipper Jay Conn said. &uot;Bridget Babb held their leading scorer to zero points. I am very proud of our effort.&uot;

Leading the way for Ahoskie Christian offensively was Amanda Hall with eight points and Sarah Calderado with seven points. Tori Conn added four points in the win.

Shanee Ross had two points and 10 rebounds to help pace the victory. Also key on defense were Conn and Babb.

The two teams were deadlocked at 10 by the end of the first period and remained so at the intermission.

The Lady Warriors scored five in the third quarter and six in the fourth to secure the victory.

Elisha McKeeves led Emmanuel with seven points.

Ahoskie Christian moved to 1-2 on the season and will be off until January when they host Ruth’s Chapel at 6:30 p.m. January 10.

In the varsity boy’s action, Ahoskie Christian mounted a late comeback, but it wasn’t enough as Emmanuel claimed a 51-39 victory.

Tripp Plaunty had a team-high 16 points to pace the Warriors.

&uot;We gave a great effort,&uot; Ahoskie first-year coach Bill Mitchell said. &uot;The kids played hard.&uot;

Emmanuel took a 10-point advantage in the first quarter as they gained an 18-8 lead. They extended their advantage to 32-12 by the end of the first half.

ACS rallied to trim the deficit to 40-26 by the end of the third quarter and outscored Emmanuel 13-11 in the final period.

Mitchell said he was pleased with the total defensive effort and hustle of Chris Olson and the eight points he got from Josh Rawls off the bench.

Following Rawls were Omari Mitchell (seven points), Olson with six and Stanton Plaunty with two points.

The loss dropped ACS to 1-2 on the year.
