MURFREESBORO – A man wielding a knife robbed a Murfreesboro gas station/convenience store on Friday night.

At approximately 10 pm on December 9, a black male wearing a ski mask and wielding what appeared to be a butcher knife burst into the Duck Thru Mini Mart on 602 W. Main Street in Murfreesboro. The suspect was described as roughly 20 years old, 5 feet 8 inches tall, and 150 pounds with a slender build. The suspect was also wearing a dark shirt with a lighter shirt underneath and white pants.

“There was a lady with her child and the clerk in the store at the time of the robbery, but they escaped, left the location and went to the police station,” Murfreesboro Police Chief Darrell Rowe said.

Within four minutes officers Larry Newsome and Linda Britton of the Murfreesboro Police Department responded to the scene, but the perpetrator had fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Additional Murfreesboro units and units from the Hertford County Sheriff’s Office responded and secured the store, but after a search the officers were unable to locate the suspect.

The investigation and search for the suspected armed robber continues and tapes from the store’s video surveillance system were recovered.

“We are currently working on an active lead,” Rowe said.

The Murfreesboro Police Department is offering a reward for assistance in the arrest and conviction of the suspect in this case.

“Even though the store was robbed, I am gratified that no one was injured,” Rowe added. “This is obviously a dangerous situation and may be repeated until the suspect is apprehended.”
