Linda Howell

WINDSOR n Linda Sawyer Howell, age 54, died Monday, November 21, 2005 at Bertie Memorial Hospital. She was born January 25, 1951, the daughter of the late Alton and Flossie Mayfield Wood Sawyer.

Survivors include her husband, Robert C. Howell of the home; daughters, Elizabeth Davis of Washington, NC, Brittany Askew of Aulander, NC and Brandy Howell of the home.

Graveside services were held Friday, November 25, 2005 at 2 p.m. at the Edgewood Cemetery. The family received friends Thursday evening from 7 till 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Massey Funeral Home of Aulander was in charge of arrangements.

Cruise S. Webb

GASTON n Mrs. Cruise Scott Webb, 84, of Gaston, died November 20, 2005 at Hampton Woods in Jackson.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Cool Spring Baptist Church, Gaston, by the Rev. Wayne I. Welch Sr. Interment will be in the church cemetery. H.D. Pope Funeral Home, Roanoke Rapids, was in charge.

Madeline Riddick

HOBBSVILLE – Ethel Madeline Riddick, 86, a native of Gates County, died November 24, 2005, in Obici Memorial Hospital, Suffolk, Va.

Miss Riddick was an elementary school teacher for 33 years in the North Carolina public school system, she graduated from East Carolina Teacher’s College, now East Carolina University in Greenville, and was a member of Sandy Cross Baptist Church.

She is survived by a brother, Richard Elmo Riddick of the home.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home, Gatesville, by the Rev. E. Vernon Gilmer Jr. Burial will be in the Gatesville Cemetery.

Meredith W. England

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Meredith Geraldine Williams England, 73, a native of Spray, NC, formerly of Hobbsville, died November

22, 2005, in Riverside Regional Convalescent Center. She was the widow of Daniel Eugene England.

Mrs. England was a homemaker.

Survivors include her mother, Viola Williams Moser of Greensboro; three daughters, Donna Kay Reidy of Suffolk, Patricia Lynn Reeder of Kingston, Tenn., and Rhonda Gale Moberg of Newport News; two sons, Danny E. England of Newport News, and Lloyd Ray England of Lynchburg, Va.; a sister, Evelyn Brown of Holiday, Tenn.; two brothers, Robert Williams and Brady Moser, both of Greensboro; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a great-grandchild who is due to be born in two weeks/

Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in Warwick Baptist Church Cemetery by the Rev. Gene Asbill. Miller Funeral Home, Gatesville, is in charge.

Margaret Beamon

GATESVILLE n Margaret Ella Herman Beamon, 79, died November 22, 2005 at Guardian C are Nursing Home, Elizabeth City. She was the widow of Thomas Beamon.

A home going service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Sycamore Hill AME Zion Church, Gatesville, by the Rev. Melanie Miller. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Stallings Funeral Home, Gatesville, is in charge.

Mrs. Beamon was a member of Sycamore Hill AME Zion Church.

Survivors include four daughters, Catherine Savage of Elizabeth City, Margaret Louise Hollis and Clara Denise Ruffin, both of Gatesville and Mary Johnson of New Haven, Conn.; four sons, Larry Beamon of Gates, Lloyd Beamon of Gatesville, Micheal Beamon of Elizabeth City and Thomas Beamon of Waterbury, Conn.; one sister, Joyce Starks of Mson, Ariz.; three foster sisters, Susie Riddick, Frances Goodman and Mary Eason, all of Gatesville; three brothers, Leonard Bryant of Rahway, NY, Franklin Bryant of Bronx and Joseph Bryant of Atlantic City; three foster brothers, John Hall and James Hall, both of Gatesville and Thomas Hall of Gates; 22 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.

Elizabeth Hoggard

WINDSOR n Elizabeth Tripp Hoggard, 81, a native of Bertie County, died November 23, 2005 at Bertie Memorial Hospital. She was the widow of John Thomas Hoggard Sr.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. at Ross Baptist Church by the Rev. Brian Medlin and the Rev. Roger Kiker. Burial will be in Edgewood Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be made to Bertie County Rescue Squad, PO Box 74, Windsor, NC 27983. Walker Funeral Home, Windsor, is in charge.

Mrs. Hoggard was a member of Ross Baptist Church and a homemaker.

Survivors include a daughter, Brenda H. Johnson of Williamston; three sons, Thomas L. Hoggard of Omaha, NE, John Thomas Hoggard Jr. of Merry Hill and Gregory R. Hoggard of Ahoskie; two sisters, Margaret T. Farmer of Ahoskie and Geraldine T. Keech of Belhaven; two brothers, Linwood Earl Tripp of Ahoskie and Willie Tripp of Aulander; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Clara Willis Cannady

RALEIGH n Clara Willis Cannady, died November 24, 2005 at Sunnybrook Healthcare Center.

Born in Buies Creek on May 13, 1918, she was the last surviving child of the late Henry and Mary Tart Willis of Benson, NC.

She attended Campbell College before marrying the late John A. Cannady of Clinton.

They lived most of their 55 years of marriage in Powellsville where she worked hard, lived honestly, and proudly raised a family of four children.

Mrs. Cannady was a dedicated mother and enthusiastic friend to many.

As an active member of Powellsville Baptist Church, she served as teacher and choir member and much of her life was centered around church activities.

She enjoyed her role of seamstress to her many friends in the surrounding communities.

Mrs. Cannady was preceded in death by her husband and her daughter, Judith Cannady Harrington of Greenville.

Surviving are her children:

daughters Diana Nicholas of Maitland, FL, and Nancy Pressley of Charlotte; and son, John D. Cannady of Raleigh; grandchildren:

Lenny and Scott Nicholas, Shelly H. Goodin, Rob and Hope Harrington, Laura Perry Monk and Colin Perry, Sarah and Emily Cannady; great-grandchildren Lauren and Jacob Nicholas, and many loving nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Cannady was very grateful to her daughter-in-law, Wanda Parker Cannady, for her care and love during her last eight years in Raleigh.

The family wishes to thank all caregivers of their mother during her years of declining health and especially those who cared for her at Outlook Pointe Assisted Living and Sunnybrook Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Raleigh.

Services will be held for Mrs. Cannady at 3:00 pm on Saturday, November 26, at Garrett Funeral Home, Ahoskie, NC, by the Rev. Ed Davis.

Burial will follow at Highland Memorial Gardens near Powellsville.

The family will receive visitors Saturday from 1:00 to 2:30 pm

at Garrett Funeral Home prior to the funeral.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Powellsville Baptist Church or Hospice of Wake County.
