Mary G. Lossen

Mary Godwin Lossen, 91, of Ahoskie, NC, died Saturday, October 22, 2005 at Brunswick Cove Nursing Home, Leland, NC.

Mrs. Lossen was born September 25, 1914 in Hertford County, NC, daughter of the late Joseph Raleigh Godwin and Katie Leggett Godwin. She was also preceded in death by her husband, George Albert Lossen and her daughter, Katie Lossen Osborne.

She was a member of Brantley’s Grove Baptist Church in Ahoskie.

Mary is survived by her sister, Maggie Lee Ripa of Wilmington; three children, Thomas Godwin Lossen and wife, Barbara of Ahoskie, NC, George Albert Lossen, Jr., and Signe Lossen Blanton and husband, Jimmie, all of Leland, NC; seven grandchildren, George Lossen, III, Anthony Lossen, Thomas Lossen, Jr., Sandra Lossen, David Osborne, Timothy Osborne and Brian Blanton; four great-grandchildren, A.J., George, Taylor and Dylan; and niece and nephew, Terri and Dean.

A graveside service was held at 3 p.m. Monday, October 24, 2005 at Bellevue Cemetery in Wilmington, NC.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mary’s name to the charity of one’s choice.

William W. “Pete” Winstead, Sr.

MOREHEAD CITY n Formerly of Murfreesboro, NC, William W. “Pete” Winstead, Sr., 72, died Friday, October 21, 2005. Pete was born in Nash County, January 11, 1933, the son of Jerry Winstead and Willie Mae Smith Winstead.

Left to cherish him memory is his wife of 54 years, Peggy Alexander Winstead; son, William “Bill” Winstead, Jr. and wife, Evelyn of Newport, NC; daughter, Susan W. Russell and husband, Scott of Southern Pines, NC; sisters, Francis Smith and Inez Allsbrook, both of Rocky Mount, Virginia Durham of Birmingham, AL; stepbrothers, Dick Batten of Southern Pine, NC, and Bob Batten of Raleigh, NC; and grandchildren, Melissa, Mark and Melinda Russell, William “Trey,” James Ryan Winstead.

Pete Winstead was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Jerry Winstead, and stepsister, Betty Griffin.

A Celebration of his life will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, October 25, 2005 at Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home in Rocky Mount, NC, with the Rev. Susan Lindlade officiating. The family will receive friends for one hour following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Building Fund, St. James United Methodist Church, 1011 Orange Street, Newport, NC 28570.

Grady L. Cox

WINDSOR n Grady Lee Cox, 69, a native of Northampton County, died October 21, 2005 at Bertie Memorial Hospital.

A graveside funeral was conducted Monday at Roxobel-Kelford Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be made to the Millennium Pentecostal Holiness Church. Walker Funeral Home, Windsor, was in charge.

Survivors include a sister, Peggy C. Hughes of Mason, AZ; and a brother, Ron Cooke of Windsor.

Anderson Phillips

WINDSOR n Anderson McCoy Phillips, 63, died October 20, 2005.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Cedar Landing Baptist Church. Gilliam Funeral Home, Windsor, is in charge.

Margaret Spivey

SUFFOLK, Va. n Margaret Duck Spivey, 81, a native of Gates County, died October 22, 2005.

A graveside service was conducted Monday in Holly Lawn Cemetery by the Rev. Mike Derflinger. Parr Funeral Home was in charge.

Mrs. Spivey was retired from the quality control department of Birdsong Peanuts and was a Baptist.

Survivors include a brother, William Duck of Gatesville; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Lillie P. Cobb

FRANKLIN, Va. –

Lillie Woodard Gatling “Tillie” &uot;Tillie&uot; Cobb, formerly of Woodland, died October 22, 2005, in her daughter’s home in Surf City.

Mrs. Cobb was a Baptist.

Survivors include one daughter, Margaret Powell Cullifer of Surf City; three stepchildren, Robert Harvin, E.G. Harvin and Mary Katheryn Brewer; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A funeral was conducted Monday in the chapel of the Holland-Rideout Funeral Home, 1001 Armory Drive. The family requests that any remembrances be sent to a charity of personal choice. The family requested that burial be private.

Mollie Hoggard

AHOSKIE n Mollie Celestine Bazemore Hoggard, 63, a native of Bertie County, died October 22, 2005 at Guardian Care Nursing Home, Ahoskie.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at Canaan Missionary Baptist Church by the Rev. Franklin D. Williams. Interment will be in the Hoggard family cemetery. Hunter’s Funeral Home, Ahoskie, is in charge.

Mrs. Hoggard was a member of Canaan Missionary Baptist Church and a retired registered nurse and administrator of Walden East Nursing Home.

Survivors include a daughter, Shanita Bazemore of the home; two brothers, Herbert “Hawk” Hoggard of Ahoskie and Clarence Hoggard of Middletown, CT; one sister, Isabelle Riddick of Ahoskie; and one granddaughter.

Madie L. Vaughan

WOODLAND n Madie L. Vaughan, 95, a native of Northampton County, died October 22, 2005 at her residence.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Jerusalem Baptist Church, Woodland, by the Rev. Eddie Vinson. Burial will be in the church cemetery. A viewing will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday. Hertford County Undertakers, Winton, is in charge.

Survivors include three sons, Nathiel Vaughan and Wayne Vaughan, both of Poughkeepsie, NY, and Novell Vaughan of Woodland; four daughters, Willia Scott of Rich Square, Evelyn Johnson of Woodland, Geraldine Mitchell of Washington, D.C., and Joyce Anderson of Virginia Beach, Va.; 15 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Tiffany C. Harrell

AHOSKIE n Tiffany Chawnrey Harrell, died October 22, 2005.

AHOSKIE n Sharon Ray Spruill Harrell, died October 22, 2005.

Floyd O. Russell

Harrellsville – Floyd Odvil Russell, 61, a native of Bertie County, died October 24, 2005, in his home.

Russell was a member of Harrellsville United Methodist Church, where he served as Superintendant of Sunday School, Church Secretary and Treasurer.

He was a salesman for W. H. Basnight & Co., Inc.

Survivors include his wife, Kaye Kepley Russell; a son, Martin Jennings Russell of Harrellsville; two sisters, Linda R. Baker of Windsor and Louise R. Simpson of Cofield; and a brother Walter Robert Russell of Washington.

A celebration of life service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Harrellsville United Methodist Church by the Rev. Walter G. Johnston.

Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Garrett Funeral Home, Ahoskie, from 7 until 8:30 p.m. Tuesday and other times at his home in Harrellsville. Memorial donations may be made to Harrellsville United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 66, Harrellsville, NC, 27942.

Ann Wilson

COLERAIN – Ann Perry Wilson, 47, a native of Colerain, died October 22, 2005 in Gates County.

She was a member of

New Holley Grove Baptist Church.

She was an employee of Indalex in Winton and a Leader Operator.

Survivors include two sons, Daryl E. Wilson of Durham and Dameon L. Wilson of Raleigh; two brothers,

David S. Perry of Durham and Daniel Perry Jr. of Colerain;

three sisters, Brenda White and Judy Simmons, both of Chesapeake, VA and Faye Stinson of Raleigh.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday at New Holley Grove Baptist Church by Rev. Harrell.

Interment will be in the First Baptist Church Colerain Cemetery. Hunter’s Funeral Home n Ahoskie is in charge.
