John Pugh Jr.

WOODLAND n John Willie “J-Love” Pugh Jr., 38, a native of Northampton County, died October 14, 2005 at Nash General Hospital, Rocky Mount.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Mt. Sinai Church of God, Murfreesboro, by Pastor Arthur Clark. Burial will be in the Wilder-Cherry Family Cemetery. Wilder’s Funeral Home, Inc., Aulander, is in charge.

Pugh was a brick mason.

Survivors include his wife, Marie Whitaker Pugh; daughters, Kimberly Whitaker of Conway, Takita, Lacole and Tilwand, all of Woodland and Jamea Majette of Rich Square; sons, Jamon, Jayshawn and Jonta Pugh of Woodland; his grandmother, Mozella Pugh Smith of Rich Square; a brother, David Earl Pugh of Aulander; a sister, Lakeisha Clark of Rich Square; and one grandchild.

Charles Harrell

ROCKY MOUNT n Charles Harrell, 67, died October 12, 2005 at his residence.

A graveside service was conducted Monday at Gardens of Gethsemane in Rocky Mount, by Brother Scott Huberty. H.D. Pope Funeral Home is in charge.

Gladys L. Garris

PORTSMOUTH, Va. – Gladys Lorrine Garris, 72, a native of Portsmouth, died October 15, 2005, in Portsmouth. She was the widow of Robert L. Garris Sr.

Mrs. Garris retired as a self-employed caregiver and a faithful viewer of Shepherd’s Chapel.

Survivors include four daughters, Patricia A. Campbell, Juanita W. Sydlo and Alice L. Coggins, all of Portsmouth and Gina J. Cross of Smithfield; two sons, George R. Williams Jr. of Chesapeake and Norman L. Williams of Portsmouth; six sisters, Frances R. Shepheard of Portsmouth, Ellen Hollowell of Edenton, Mary Smith and Betty Smith, both of St. Mary, Ga., Shirley Marshall of North Carolina and Barbara Hendricks of Tyner; five brothers, Frank Smith of Chesapeake, Dick Smith of Suffolk, Leon Smith of West Virginia, Raymond Smith of Ahoskie and Bobby Smith of Portsmouth; 22 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, by Pastor Barry Reel. Burial will be in Olive Branch Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Lillian A. Carpenter

SUFFOLK, Va. – Lillian A. Carpenter, 80, a native of Roxobel, died October 15, 2005. She was the widow of Edward Gilbert Carpenter.

Survivors include nieces and nephews.

Henrietta Richardson

CHESAPEAKE, Va. n Henrietta Flood Richardson, died October 14, 2005 at her residence.

A memorial service will be conducted at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Providence United Church of Christ, 200 Vicker Ave., Chesapeake. Reynolds Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, is in charge.

Survivors include two sons, Kyle Richardson of Chesapeake and Dustin Banks of Ahoskie; three daughters, Tiffiney Richardson, Jacqueline Gaddis and Anita Wilson, all of Chesapeake; three brothers, Gene Hall of Virginia Beach, Kenneth Hall of Portsmouth and Arthur Flood Sr. of Waldorf, Md.; three sisters, Gladys Hall and Betty Chavis, both of Ahoskie and Pattie Ann Freeman of Chesapeake; and four grandchildren.

WOODLAND – Maggie Edwards, died October 17, 2005 at her residence.
