Ilene C. Tillery

Ilene Coates Tillery, 82 401 Quall Court, Roanoke Rapids, died October 12, 2005, formerly of Murfreesboro.

Mrs. Tillery was the daughter of the late Isaac L. Coates and Blanche Rutledge Coates.

She was the wife of the late George Hassell Tillery, Sr.

She is survived by three daughters; Patricia Hammack of Roanoke Rapids, LeVeida “Doodle” Sternberg of Williamsburg, Va., Sandra Phillips of Myrtle Beach, SC; one son; George Hassell Tillery, Jr. of Mableton, Ga; eight grandchildren; Steven Hammack, Cory Hammack, Ryan Hammack, Matthew Sternberg, Sierra Sternberg, Stephen Levine, Jason Levine and George H. “Tripp” Tillery, III; two sisters, Thelma C. Maness of Statesville, NC, Lois C. Clary of Roanoke Rapids; two brothers, Billy W. Coates and Ray Coates of Roanoke Rapids.

Askew Funeral Services will be handling the arrangements

where the funeral service will be held Saturday, October 15 at 2 PM in the Chapel with the Rev. Richard Gaskins officiating.

Visitation was held Friday, October 14 from 7-8:30 and other times at her daughters home, Patricia Hammack, 930 E. 7th Street, Roanoke Rapids, NC.

Emily A. Mizelle

WINDSOR n Emily Ann Mizelle, 67, a native of Bertie County, died October 8, 2005 at Ormond Memorial Hospital.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Walker Funeral Home. Burial will be in Edgewood Cemetery with military rites. Memorial gifts may be made to a charity of choice.

Ms. Mizelle served 6 &rac12; years with the “Old Women’s Army Corps,” receiving the Good Conduct Medal twice. She was a X-Ray technician.

Survivors include her sister, Grace Chambers of Florence, SC; and two brothers, John J. Mizelle of Locust and Winston Mizelle of Daytona Beach, Fla.

Garnette P. Williford

CHESAPEAKE, Va. – Garnette Phelps Williford, 85, a native of Merry Hill, died October 11, 2005, in her home. She was the widow Charlie Daniel Williford.

Mrs. Williford was a registered nurse with Dr. G.W. Simpson, retiring after 25 years of service. She was a

member of South Norfolk Baptist Church for 56 years, where she taught Sunday school, was active in the Women’s Missionary Union, Meals on Wheels and held other various offices during those years.

Surviving are three daughters, Kay W. Bray and Patricia W. Bodner, both of Chesapeake, and Dee W. Ferris of Virginia Beach; three sisters, Miriam White of Chesapeake, Audrey Riddick of Ahoskie, and Annie Pearl White of Askewville; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A funeral was conducted Friday in Graham Funeral Home, Greenbrier Chapel, by Dr. Scott Harris and the Rev. Ernest Trueblood. Burial was in Riverside Memorial Park. Memorial donations may be made to Gideons International, Chesapeake West Camp, P.O. Box 1102, Chesapeake, VA 23327.

Dana Tinkham

AULANDER n Dana Lee Hoggard Tinkham, 23, a native of Lexington, died October 13, 2005 at Duke University Hospital, Durham.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Edgewood Baptist Church, Windsor, by the Rev. Chris Lee. Burial will be in Edgewood Cemetery, Windsor. The family will receive friends at Massey Funeral Home, Aulander, from 7 until 8:30 p.m. Saturday and other times at the home of her grandparents in Windsor.

Survivors include her husband, Jason Tinkham; her mother, Elizabeth Ann Chilton; her brother, Jonathan Bradley of Windsor; and her grandparents, Lois Lee Cullipher and Thomas Cullipher of Windsor.

Patricia C. Bailey

CHESAPEAKE, Va. – Patricia Carr Bailey, 81, a native of Nickelsville, Va., died October 12, 2005. She was the widow of Vernon H. Carr Sr.

Mrs. Bailey was a member of Biltmore Baptist Church and Chapter 37 Order of the Eastern Star.

Survivors include four children, Dianne Carr Harrell of Ahoskie, Vernon H. &uot;Fuzzy&uot; Carr Jr. of Suffolk, Patsy Ann Carr of Chesapeake and Jeryl Leigh Carr Howell of Prince George County; a sister, Leta Faye Pippin of Nickelsville; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Bennetts Creek Chapel, by the Rev. T.M. Frye. Interment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Memorial donations may be made to Biltmore Baptist Church, 3214 Elliott Ave., Portsmouth, VA 23702.

Ernest C. Outlaw

AULANDER – Ernest C. Outlaw, 81, died Oct. 12, 2005.

A graveside service was conducted Friday in Job Cemetery. Massey Funeral Home is in charge.

Johnny W. Vinson

WOODLAND n Johnny William Vinson, 74, a native of Hertford County, died October 13, 2005 at Autumn Care of Roanoke Valley, Rich Square.

A funeral will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Menola First Baptist Church, Woodland by the Rev. Johnny Speller. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Wilder’s Funeral Home, Inc., Aulander, is in charge.

Vinson was a chauffer and was in lawn care business.

Survivors include his daughter, Diane Outlaw Bazemore and Gladys Outlaw Gallop; brothers, Lewis Vinson, Joe Vinson, Clarence Vinson and Elton Vinson; and three grandchildren.

James A. Edwards

MURFREESBORO n James A. Edwards, died October 11, 2005 at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.

A funeral will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Parker’s Grove Baptist Church, Mapleton, by the Rev. Fernander Temple. Burial will be in Carver Parker Cemetery.

Final viewing will be from 2 to 5 p.m. for the family and 5 to 7 for the public at the funeral home. Reynolds Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, is in charge.

Edwards was a member of Parker’s Grove Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Levester Scott Edwards of Murfreesboro; two sons, McCoy Edwards of Murfreesboro and James M. Edwards of Upper Marlboro, MD.; one daughter, Margaret M. Brown of Upper Marlboro; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Henrietta F. Richardson

CHESAPEAKE, Va. n Henrietta Flood Richardson, died October 14, 2005 at her residence.
