WINTON – Time Warner Cable is coming to Hertford County.

Following the bankruptcy of the Adelphia Corporation, Time Warner NY LLC has acquired the Adelphia cable system franchise serving the residents of Hertford County.

Hertford County, along with other rural counties and municipalities affected by the Adelphia bankruptcy, contracted with the Piedmont Triad Council of Governments to assist in the transfer process due to the complexity and rapidly changing technology associated with cable television service.

At this point, Time Warner is the only cable television provider in the area.

Time Warner Cable takes over the present contract from Adelphia and the terms of the contract cannot be renegotiated until the contract ends. The transfer will not alter or affect the terms of the Adelphia Franchise.

&uot;I would like to see the next cable television franchise to provide service to the St. Johns area and other areas that do not receive service now,&uot; County Commissioner Howard Hunter III said. &uot;Satellite is the only option at this point for people in this area.&uot;

&uot;This is a very thick package with a lot of information,&uot; Commissioner John Pierce added. &uot;I think we need to look at this thoroughly. Adelphia wasn’t very good when it came to repairs. We need something better than Adelphia.&uot;

There will be a public hearing in October to inform the public of the transfer.

&uot;We will try to have the consultant from the Piedmont Triad Council of Governments attend the public hearing,&uot; County Attorney Chuck Revelle said.
