WINDSOR – A Bertie County Public Schools teacher was arrested here last week for cocaine possession.

Sharon Outlaw Foster, 49, of Windsor was placed under a $1,500 secured bond after a search of her vehicle resulted in the discovery of cocaine.

Foster is an assistant Special Needs teacher at Askewville Elementary School.

The arrest came Sept. 14 when Bertie Sheriff's Deputy Brian Knowles and Detective Kenny Gilliam of the Bertie County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Division along with Windsor Police officers David Pierce and Ricky Morris were attempting to locate a suspect on Bud's Lane in Windsor for a narcotics violation.

Gilliam was searching an abandoned trailer off Bud's Lane. That trailer has been the target of complaints lodged by the public who claimed illegal drug activity was occurring at that location. Complainants say this trailer has been used by street dealers and users to both sell and use cocaine.

During his search of the trailer, Gilliam noticed a small white SUV drive up on the dead end street.

He observed the vehicle leaving the area at a high rate of speed.

Gilliam radioed to the other officers to stop the vehicle.

The vehicle was stopped in the parking lot of a Windsor convenience store where a search revealed cocaine.

Foster was arrested and charged with possession of cocaine and was taken to the Sheriff’s Office where she was placed under bond without incident.
