MURFREESBORO – Despite a goal from former Hertford County standout Joseph Rampersad with four seconds remaining in regulation, the Braves soccer team fell to Faulkner University 3-2 here Sunday afternoon.

Rampersad’s goal sent the game into the first of what would be two overtimes.

Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the first overtime as both squads fought the heat and fatigue.

The second overtime looked much like the first until the Eagle’s Nelson Obanoyen netted five minutes into the extra period.

Despite the loss, Braves Head Coach Rob Battisson was proud of his team’s effort.

&uot;We certainly didn’t play well the first half but we got it together and played what I thought was an excellent second half&uot; the coach said.

&uot;The main thing was that we kept going, I couldn’t ask anything more out of these guys&uot;

Neither team started off well as the score remained 0-0 going into half time.

The defensive struggle finally came to an end when a Daniel Conway cross found Rampersad in stride.

Rampersad took full advantage with a kick from the left side that found the back of the net at the 48:07 mark for the 1-0 lead.

Faulkner would answer with two goals of their own in the second half and seemed poised for the win in regulation until Rampersad’s second goal forced extra time.

The Braves outshot the Eagles 25-17 and Chowan goalie Nick Anders recorded seven saves on the match.

The loss drops their record to 1-5 overall as they prepare to host Bluefield College next Saturday at 2:00 pm.
