Suspects in custody

AHOSKIE – The hunt is over.

Over the weekend, the two Ahoskie men wanted for an alleged brutal assault that occurred in town on Thursday of last week were taken into custody.

Calvin Travis Lassiter, 20, and Davet Zamel Simmons, 22, are charged with one felony count each of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and first degree attempted murder.

Lassiter, arrested on Saturday in Murfreesboro, was placed in the Hertford County Jail under a $275,000 secured bond. Simmons surrendered on his own accord on Sunday at the Ahoskie Police Department. He was jailed under a $277,000 secured bond.

Ahoskie Police Chief Troy Fitzhugh did not release the name of the victim. However, he did say the victim was cut and stabbed several times about his body. The victim was taken to Roanoke-Chowan Hospital on Thursday and later airlifted to Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville.

The stabbing allegedly occurred in the Burden Street area of town.
