AHOSKIE – The 58th annual Beechwood Country Club Championship Tournament resulted in a classic matchup between two former club champions.

Harrison Pinnix of Severn, the 2004 champ, and Frankie Britt of Conway, the 2003 winner, finished the regulation two-day tournament in a tie at seven under par.

A sudden-death-never-give-up playoff followed and the two former champs battled to a deadlock after three holes.

On the fourth playoff hole, an errant drive by Pinnix finally gave Britt the opening he needed and he won the hole and the 2005 championship.

Elder White of Ahoskie, who was Club Champion in 1980, won the Senior Championship. Don Morris of Edenton came in second while Ken Deyoe of Ahoskie won Senior Flight B.

Marietta Flowers of Murfreesboro won the Women’s Championship with Bobbie Armstrong of Ahoskie placing second.

In addition to the Championship Flight, there were four others Flights for the men.

Results of those are as follows:

First Flight – Winner: Edmund Acree, Second Place: Doug Cobbs;

Second Flight – Winner: (five way tie) Gary Berard, Price Daly, Mike Felton, Billy Hall and Joe Spicer;

Third Flight – Winner: Horace Dilday, Second Place: Billy Greene; and

Fourth Flight – Winner: Joe Almario, Second Place: J.E. Dilday.
