Mary B. Sessoms

Mary B. Sessoms of Wilmington, NC, died Tuesday, August 16, 2005 at her residence.

She was born on August 7, 1927 in Woodland, NC, the daughter of the late Bennie and Nettie Futrell Blowe.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Blowe and a sister, Essie Bunch.

Mrs. Sessoms was a member of Scotts Hill Baptist Church.

She, along with her husband, owned and operated Surfside Motor Lodge in Carolina Beach for twenty five years until their retirement to Scotts Hill.

Surviving is her husband of fifty six years, Ecky R. Sessoms; daughters, Carol S. Ford and husband John, Sue Whitmore and husband Joey; grandchildren, Shane Tregembo and wife Michele, and Hunter Ford; one great granddaughter, Kelsey Royce Tregembo.

She leaves behind her beloved pets; a dog, Max and her cats, Katy and Scooter.

A graveside service will be held 11:00 am Thursday, August 18, 2005 in Oakdale Cemetery by Pastor Phil Ortego.

Anyone wishing to pay their respects to Mrs. Sessoms did so Wednesday afternoon and evening at Andrews Mortuary Market Street Chapel, however, the family will be receiving friends following the graveside service on Thursday.

James G. Wagner

WASHINGTON PARK – James Glenn &uot;Choppy&uot; Wagner, 94, a native of Johnston County, Tenn., died August 15, 2005 at his home.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at the First United Methodist Church, by the Rev. Ray Wittman and the Rev. Adrian Sawyer. Burial will be in Oakdale Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the J. G. Choppy Wagner Scholarship Fund, Attn: Jim Buckman, First South Bank, P.O. Box 1047, Washington, NC 27889 or the First United Methodist Church, 304 W. 2nd Street, Washington, N.C. 27889. Paul Funeral Home, Washington, is in charge.

Wagner was a U.S. Navy veteran serving in World War II. Mr. Wagner was a graduate of Wake Forest University. Mr. Wagner coached football for over 35 years. He was coach and athletic director at Washington High School for 31 years. He was Past President of the North Carolina Coaches Association. He was inducted into the N.C. Coaches Hall of Fame in 1992. Also, he was the oldest living member of the First United Methodist Church. He was a member of the E. Frank Ruble Sunday School Class.

Survivors include: his wife, Irene Sawyer Wagner of the home; two daughters, Ramona Sawyer Cayton of Washington, and Rebecca Margaret &uot;Becky&uot; Wagner Ward of Conway; five grandchildren; and two great-grandsons.

Lucy B. Bazemore

WINDSOR n Lucy Bunch Bazemore, 77, a native of Bertie County, died August 9, 2005.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Zion Bethlehem Baptist Church by the Rev. Berryhill. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery. A visitation will be conducted from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at Zion Bethlehem Church.

Mrs. Bazemore was a retired educator.

Survivors include her daughters, Gloria Harrell of Greenville and Sandra Bazemore of Hampton, Ga.; a brother, Charlie E. Bunch of Windsor; and her sisters, Shirley Cooper of Windsor and Helena Lassiter of Ahoskie.

Virginia M. Greene

WINDSOR n Virginia M. Greene, 77, died August 16, 2005 at Pitt Memorial Hospital, Greenville.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Cedar Landing Baptist Church. A wake will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at Gilliam Funeral Home, Windsor. Burial will be Hillcrest Cemetery.

Robert Printis

ROCKY MOUNT n Robert Printis, 84, died August 11, 2005 at his residence.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Ebenezer Baptist Church by the Rev. Thomas L. Walker. Interment will be in Gardens of Gethsemane. Visitation will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Ebenezer Baptist Church. H.D. Pope Funeral Home is in charge.

Elwood Martin

LASKER n Mr. Elwood Glaston Martin, age 88, of Lasker, NC, died Aug. 15, 2005 at Nash General Hospital in Rocky Mount, NC.

Mr. Martin was born Aug. 13, 1917, in Northampton County, NC, the son of the late Thomas Elwood Martin and Martha Edwards Martin. He was also preceded in death by four brothers, Pervie Leon, and Clent Martin and a sister, Virginia Martin Bryant. He was a retired farmer who loved to watch his crops flourish. He was a life-long Baptist and a member of Creeksville Baptist Church. He was a member of the Rich Square Masonic Lodge and held a 32nd degree in the Scottish Rite.

He is survived by his wife of almost 67 years, Margaret Grant Martin; his children, Tony L. Martin and wife, Bennine Vann Martin of Littleton, NC, Larry G. Martin and his wife, Nancy Martin of Raleigh, NC, Joan Martin Leon and her husband, Col. Philip Leon of Charleston, SC, and Dr. Willis E. Martin and his wife, Myra Martin of Red Oak, NC; his sister, Elma Martin Lassiter of Creeksville; eight grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held, Thursday, Aug. 18, 2005 at 11 a.m. at Creeksville Baptist Church with the Rev. Brian Detrick officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

The family received friends at Massey Funeral Home in Jackson, NC, Wednesday from 7 until 8:30 p.m.

Lois Vaughan

MURFREESBORO n Lois Parker Vaughan, 81, a native of Hertford County, died August 15, 2005 at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church by the Rev. Elton Hall. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Hertford County Undertakers, Winton, is in charge.

Survivors include two sons, Michael Lassiter of Murfreesboro and Acie Lassiter of New York; one brother, Sherman Vaughan of Murfreesboro; six sisters, Jessie Holden of Murfreesboro, Aretha Estick and Ruby McKnight, both of New York, Bernice Hardy of Woodland, Rea Vaughan and Anita Britt, both of Philadelphia, Pa.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

BROOKLYN, N.Y. n Oray E. Keys III, died August 12, 2005 at Brookdale University Hospital.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at Woodard Funeral Home Chapel, Brooklyn, by the Rev. Sims. Hood Funeral Home, Conway, supplied information.

Melvin M. Veale

NORFOLK, Va. n Melvin McCoy Veale, 64, a native of Bertie County, died August 12, 2005 at Norfolk Health Care Center, Norfolk, Va.

A funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church, Lewiston. Burial will be in the Veale family cemetery. Wilder's Funeral Home, Inc., Aulander, is in charge.

Veale was a member of New Bethany Baptist Church, Chesapeake, Va.

Survivors include two brothers, Otis Veale of Lewiston and Randy Veale of Hampton.

James O. Bond

COLERAIN n James Oris Bond, 60, a native of Bertie County, died August 14, 2005 at his residence.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Sunday at Wilder's Funeral Home Chapel, Aulander. Burial will be in Wilder-Cherry Family Cemetery, Aulander.

Bond was a member of Greater Wynn's Grove Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Odessa Perry of Colerain; two sons, Charlie Bond of Colerain and James Stewart Bond of Boston, Mass.; and four grandchildren.

WINDSOR n Gwendolyn Bazemore Harrell, 51, a native of Bertie County, died August 13, 2005 at her residence.

A funeral will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church, Lewiston, by Dr. James E. Jones Jr. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Wilder's Funeral Home, Inc., Aulander, is in charge.

Mrs. Harrell was a member of Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Randolph Harrell of Windsor; a daughter, Kendra Harrell of Lewiston; a son, Randolph Harrell of Lewiston; a sister, Araminta Bazemore of Washington, D.C.; and a granddaughter.

Richard Edwards

ROCKY MOUNT n Richard Edwards, 71, died August 15, 2005 at Nash General Hospital.

A funeral will be conducted at 12 p.m. Saturday at North End Missionary Baptist Church by Dr. Elbert Lee. Interment will be at Gardens of Gethsemane in Rocky Mount. A visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the church. H.D. Pope Funeral Home is in charge.
