Roanoke-Chowan area high school football teams swung into action Friday night as the 2005 season opened.

GASTON – The Northampton County-West Hurricanes opened the 2005 season against Roanoke Rapids in Gaston Friday night in a game marred by turnovers, penalties, and muscle cramps. The ‘Canes won by a 28-14 count.

KINSTON – Hertford County High School junior quarterback Danny Dembry ran for two touchdowns and threw for another as the Bears opened their 2005 football season in fine fashion here last night (Friday) with a 41-27 win over Kinston High School.

LASKER – Trinity scored 24 points on their first three plays from scrimmage as they rolled to a 66-0 victory over Northeast Academy here last night.

MERRY HILL – Harrells Christian Academy racked up over 400 yards of offense as they handed Lawrence Academy a 35-0 loss in the Warriors season opener.

WINDSOR – A defensive struggle ended in a heart-wrenching loss for the Bertie Falcons as they fell 14-6 vs. visiting Wilson Hunt on Friday night.
