Za'Kaiya A. Jacobs

MURFREESBORO n Za'Kaiya Alexandria Jacobs, 2-years-old, daughter of Gloria Jean Jacobs of Murfreesboro, died July 20, 2005 at Pitt County Memorial Hospital, Greenville.

Za'Kaiya was a native of Hertford County.

Other survivors include one sister, LaTia S. Jacobs of Kelford.

A funeral will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Mill Branch Baptist Church. Burial will be in the Wilder-Cherry Family Cemetery. Wilder's Funeral Home Chapel, Aulander is in charge.

William Cobb Sr.

WINDSOR n William Robert "Robbie" Cobb Sr., 51, a native of Bertie County, died July 21, 2005 at his home.

A graveside funeral was conducted Monday at the Cobb family cemetery by the Rev. Chris Lee. Walker Funeral Home, Windsor, was in charge.

Cobb was a former logger with Ross Phelps Logging.

Survivors include a daughter, Nicole Cobb Ward of Hertford; a son, William Robert Cobb Jr. of Windsor; two sisters, Bonnie C. Brown of Williamston and Freda C. Jernigan of Edenton; and two brothers, Randy Cobb and Joe Cobb, both of Windsor.

Vera M. Hilliard

ROCKY MOUNT n Vera M. Hilliard, 96, died July 21, 2005 at Nash General Hospital, Rocky Mount.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Metropolitan Baptist Church by Dr. James Arnette. A visitation will be held from 5 to 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Chapel of H.D. Pope Funeral Home.

Willie G. Arrington

ROCKY MOUNT n Ms. Willie G. Arrington, 58, died July 21, 2005 at Nash General Hospital.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at H.D. Pope Funeral Home chapel.

Walter Jernigan Sr.

LEWISTON-WOODVILLE n Walter T. "Pete" Jernigan Sr., 71, a native of Bertie County, died July 22, 2005 at Pitt County Memorial Hospital, Greenville.

A funeral was conducted Sunday at Lewiston First Baptist Church by Dr. Dave Rimel and the Rev. Henry Boschen. Burial was in Hoggard Memorial Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lewiston First Baptist Church, Lewiston-Woodville, NC 27849 or to the Lewiston-Woodville Fire Department, Lewiston-Woodville, NC 27849. Sykes Funeral Service, Rich Square, was in charge.

Jernigan retired from Kelford Coca Cola in 1986. He was a charter member of Lewiston-Woodville Fire Department. He was also a deacon of the Lewiston First Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn F. Jernigan of the home; two daughters, Lynn Bradley of Franklin, Va., and Lora Jernigan of Greenville; one son, Pete Jernigan Jr. of Lewiston-Woodville; three sisters, Chris Garris of Murfreesboro, Ann Minton of Cary and Betty Jean Morris of Kelford; and four grandchildren.

Viola W. Bass

PORTSMOUTH, Va. n Viola W. Bass, 94, a native of Powellsville, died July 21, 2005. She was the widow of Glover C. Bass Sr.

Mrs. Bass retired from the Naval Regional Medical Center after 26 years. She was a member of Third Baptist Church, Portsmouth, where she was involved with the Loyal Workers Club and Feed the Hungry.

Survivors include three daughters, Dorothy C. Oliver, Ruth C. Johnson and Delores B. Oliver; a son, Melvin E. Bass; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in Third Baptist Church, Portsmouth, by the Rev. Joe B. Fleming. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake. Viewing will begin Tuesday at noon. The family will be at the residence to receive friends. Willie S. White

HOBBSVILLE – Willie Jean Stallings White, 70, a native of Chowan County, died July 21, 2005, in Chowan Hospital, Edenton.

Mrs. White was a homemaker and a member of Sandy Cross Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Burfoot L. White; and two sisters, Evelyn S. Arnold of Belvidere and Margaret Ann Stallings of Rocky Mount.

Graveside services were conducted Sunday in Stallings Family Cemetery (Joppa Road) by the Rev. Hugh Mizelle. Miller Funeral Home, Gatesville, was in charge.

Mrs. Skinner Robertson Harrison

DURHAM n Mrs. Skinner Robertson Harrison departed this life, Wednesday, July 6, 2005 at Halifax Regional Hospital, Roanoke Rapids, at the age of 98.

She was born in Warren County March 22, 1907, the daughter of William Skinner Robertson and Fannie Price Robertson, and lived in Durham from 1939 until July 2004 at which time she had to move in with her daughter, Mrs. Laurie Harrison Hulin of Lasker and lived with her until her death.

Mrs. Harrison was predeceased by her parents; her husband of 38 years, N.E. Harrison; her children, N.E. Harrison, Jr.; Battle Harrison; Fannie Harrison Hart; and Martha Harrison Wynne.

She leaves to cherish her memories her only surviving child, Laurie Harrison Hulin, of Lasker; three grandsons; and one great-granddaughter.

Funeral services were held, Friday, July 8, 2005 at Hudson Funeral Chapel in Durham. Burial was at Woodlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Durham.

Emma G. Pugh

WINDSOR n Emma Greene Pugh, a native of Windsor, died July 18, 2005. She was the widow of James "Foot" Pugh.

A funeral was conducted Saturday at Cedar Landing Baptist Church by the Rev. Shelton R. Barnes. Burial was in the church cemetery. Gilliam Funeral Home, Windsor, was in charge.

Mrs. Pugh was a member of Cedar Landing Baptist Church.

Survivors include children, Duncan H. Pugh of Windsor, Lee Jackson Pugh of Brooklyn, N.Y., Mabel Bond of Jamaica, Emma Smallwood of Windsor, Lillie Bond of Brooklyn, Julius Pugh of St. Albans; 36 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Tamesha Lassiter

AHOSKIE n Tamesha Lassiter, died July 24, 2005 in Durham.

Ernestine Watson

MURFREESBORO n Ernestine Watson, 76, a native of New York, died July 21, 2005 at Albemarle Hospital.

A funeral will be conducted at 12 noon Thursday at First Baptist Church Murfreesboro by the Rev. Robert D. Richardson III. Burial will be in Carver Park Cemetery. Hunter's Funeral Home, Inc., Murfreesboro, is in charge.

Ms. Watson was a retired teacher for Hertford County Schools and a member of First Baptist Church Murfreesboro.

Mary Barnes

CONWAY n Mary Barnes, 83, a native of Northampton County, died July 23, 2005 at Hampton Woods Nursing Home, Jackson.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Zoar Missionary Baptist Church by the Rev. William Denson. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Hunter's Funeral Home, Murfreesboro, is in charge.

She was a member of Zoar Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Viola Barnes of Conway; and one sister, Nellie Barnes of Murfreesboro.

James M. Deloatch

MURFREESBORO n James Melvin Deloatch, 58, a native of Hertford County, died July 23, 2005 at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital.

Betty F. Austin

POTECASI n Betty Francine Austin, 51, a native of Northampton County, died July 23, 2005 at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.

A funeral will be conducted at 12 noon Saturday at Second Baptist Church Creeksville by the Rev. Anthony Rawling. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Hunter's Funeral Home, Inc., Murfreesboro, is in charge.

Survivors include two daughters, Sheovone Edmonds of Raleigh and Giovanna S. McKnight of Maryland; parents, James and Blannie Majette of Potecasi; two brothers, Ronald Majette and James D. Majette Jr., both of Washington, D.C.; and four grandchildren.

Glennie Simmons

COFIELD n Glennie Simmons, 90, a native of Hertford County, died July 25, 2005 at Guardian Care Nursing Home, Ahoskie.
