HALIFAX n Caroline Peterson, 78, died July 9, 2005 at Nash General Hospital.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete. H.D. Pope Funeral Home is in charge.

Annie Hedgepeth

ROCKY MOUNT n Annie Hedgepeth, 95, died July 6, 2005 at her residence.

A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Chapel of H.D. Pope Funeral Home, Rocky Mount.

Shamya M. Vaughan

WOODLAND n Shamya Monique Vaughan, 11 months old, daughter of Sharon O. Howard of Woodland and Melvin Duyane Vaughan, also of Woodland, died July 6, 2005 at Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters, Norfolk, Va.

A funeral was conducted Monday at Wilder's Funeral Home Chapel, Aulander, by the Rev. Irvin Everette. Burial was in the Lassiter family cemetery, Murfreesboro.

She is also survived by her grandparents, Molley and Thomas Vaughan of Woodland, and Willie Mae Howard and Rick Tann, both of Murfreesboro.

Robert E. Whitaker

FRANKLIN, Va. n Robert Earl Whitaker, 56, a native of Northampton County, died July 5, 2005 at Obici Hospital, Suffolk, Va.

A funeral was conducted Saturday at Branches Chapel Baptist Church, Rich Square, by the Rev. James Hampton. Burial was in New Life Ministry Cemetery, Winton. Wilder's Funeral Home Inc., Aulander, was in charge.

Survivors include his mother, Pauline Whitaker of Rich Square; two sons, Corey Whitaker of South Glen Falls, NY and Michael; daughters, Darlene Smith of Queensbury and Ephesiaus Wilson of Conyers, Ga.; brother, Jimmy Whitaker of Rich Square; two sisters, Rosa Whitaker of Patterson, NJ and Gladys Whitaker of Rich Square; and eight grandchildren.

Mary Bazemore

WINDSOR n Mary Gilliam Bazemore, 81, a native of Bertie County, died July 7, 2005 at her residence.

A funeral was conducted Sunday at Weeping Mary Baptist Church, Lewiston, by the Rev. Johnnie Cofield. Burial was in the church cemetery. Wilder's Funeral Home, Inc., Aulander, was in charge.

Survivors include two daughters, Gwendolyn Harrell of Lewiston and Araminta Bazemore of Washington, D.C.; a brother, Robert Gilliam of Temple Hills, Md.; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Lizzie B. Harrell

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. n Lizzie Burrus Harrell, 85, a native of Gates County, died July 7, 2005 at her residence.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete. Hertford County Undertakers, Winton, is in charge.

Edna L. Blanchard

SUNBURY – Edna Earle Lang Blanchard, 80, a native of Gates County, died July 9, 2005, in her home. She was the widow of Fred E. Blanchard.

Mrs. Blanchard taught in public school systems in Rich Square, Newport News, Nashville, Tenn., and Gates County, and had taught piano privately.

She and her husband was also owners of Blanchard's Garage in Sunbury.

An active member of Beulah Baptist Church, she had been a Sunday school teacher, church pianist and choir director.

Survivors include one daughter, Paula B. Pressnell of Sunbury; a son, Earl Blanchard of Sunbury; a sister, Amaryllis Riddick of Hobbsville; three brothers, George Lang and Dan Lang, both of Gatesville and the Rev. Joe Lang of Oak Ridge; and three grandchildren.

A funeral was conducted Monday in Beulah Baptist Church by the Rev. Joe Cockrell and the Rev. Joe Lang. Burial was in Gatesville Cemetery. Miller Funeral Home, Gatesville, was in charge.

Charlie J. Sykes Jr.

PORTSMOUTH, Va. – Charlie J. &uot;CJ&uot; Sykes Jr., 75, a native of Garysburg, died July 3, 2005, in Beverly Manor of Portsmouth. He was the widower of Penny Sykes.

Sykes worked at Sykes Barbershop for six years. He was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church, Portsmouth.

Survivors include a daughter, Dochia Sykes; three sons, Monte Sykes, Andra Sykes and Anthony Sykes; a sister, Naomi McNeal; a brother, Albert Paul Sykes; and a host of grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in Corprew Funeral Home Chapel, Portsmouth, by the Rev. Alfred Chandler. Burial will be in Lincoln Memorial Cemetery, Portsmouth. Condolences may be sent to www.corprewfuneralhome.com.

James L. Bush

AULANDER n James Lee Bush, a native of Lewiston, died July 4, 2005. He was the widower of Bessie Burden Bush.

A funeral was conducted Saturday at Conoconary Baptist Church by the Rev. James E. Jones. Burial was in the church cemetery. Gilliam Funeral Home was in charge.

Bush was retired from Perdue Farms and Town of Windsor. He was a member of Conoconary Baptist Church.

Survivors include his daughter, Tarsha Bush-Dudley; his stepmother, Chanie Bush; his sisters, Gladoria Bush, Maggie Bush and Katie Gray, all of Lewiston; his brother, Archie Bush Jr. of Rocky Mount; and two grandchildren.

Ulysses Wynn

AHOSKIE n Ulysses Wynn, died July 10, 2005 at Brian Center Health & Rehabilitation Center, Windsor.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Piney Wood Chapel Baptist Church by the Rev. Matthew Silver. Burial will be in the Wynn family cemetery, Ahoskie. Reynolds Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, is in charge.

Wynn was a member of Piney Wood Chapel Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Mildred Jenkins Wynn; a son, Gregory Wynn of Ahoskie; one daughter, Tonie Holland of Philadelphia, Pa.; two sisters, Gladys Perry of Ahoskie and Shirley Ward of Oxon Hill, Md.; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Anna Sary

MERRY HILL n Anna Beulah Baker Sary, 87, a native of Bertie County, died July 10, 2005 at Pitt Memorial Hospital, Greenville. She was the widow of Joseph Michael Sary.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Walker Funeral Chapel, Windsor, by the Rev. Chris Lee. Burial will be in Capeharts Church Cemetery, Merry Hill. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home and other times at the home of Jerry Sary. Mrs. Sary was a member of Capeharts Baptist Church and the owner and operator of the Jersey Motel for more than 37 years.

Survivors include a daughter, Jo Ann Sary of Kill Devil Hills; four sons, Marvin Sary of Trenton, NJ, Joseph "Terry" Sary of Bordentown, Jerry Sary of Merry Hill and Gregory Sary of Windsor; one brother, Edwin Baker of Bruceton Mills,WVa.; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

William Bazemore Sr.

BROOKLYN, N.Y. –

William Earl Bazemore Sr., 62, a native of Bertie County, died July 7, 2005.

Bazemore was a member of Litters Glory Pentecostal Church, Brooklyn.

Survivors include his wife, Odessa Bazemore of Brooklyn; a son, William Earl Bazemore Jr. of Brooklyn; a daughter: Stephanie B. Gitten of Brooklyn; sisters, Thelma B. Keys, Alice B. Willie and Nellie B. Tabron, all of

Lewiston; brothers, Paul Bazemore, James Bazemore, Charlie Bazemore and Larry Bazemore, all of Lewiston and Willie McCoy Bazemore of Brooklyn;

and one grandson.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Luella Baptist Church, Kelford, by the Rev. Vernon Lassiter. Burial will be in the Bazemore family cemetery, Kelford. Wilder's Funeral Home, Inc. n Aulander, is in charge.
