JAMESVILLE – A valiant effort fell short.

The Ahoskie 9 and10-year-old Ahoskie All-Stars put together a valiant fight against Edenton Monday night, but came up empty in a 13-2 loss.

The Ahoskie team went down in order in the top of the first inning, but rallied late against a strong Edenton club.

Edenton scored two runs on two hits and an error in the first inning to grab a 2-0 lead.

Jordan Harrell led off the top of the second with an infield single, but was thrown out stealing second to end the inning after a pair of strikeouts.

In the bottom of the second stanza, Edenton sent 12 batters to the plate. They scored eight runs on four hits and three errors to grab a 10-0 advantage.

Ahoskie was again held scoreless in the third inning.

Brandon Owens came in as a relief pitcher for Ahoskie in the bottom of the third. He surrendered just two hits during the inning, but Edenton scored three runs on those hits and a pair of errors to take a 13-0 advantage heading into the top of the fourth frame.

The fourth inning started with a leadoff double from the bat of Bobby Merritt. He advanced to third on a wild pitch before scoring on a RBI-single by Landon Larabee.

Larabee went to second on a groundout by Clay Barmer. Owens then drew a walk to put runners on first and second.

Larabee and Owens attempted a double steal which was successful. When Edenton attempted to get Owens at second, Larabee scored on the throw. The throw home to try to catch Larabee allowed Owens to advance to third base.

With Dorrien Askew at the plate, Owens was sent home on a passed ball but was tagged out at the plate to end the contest.

Ahoskie had their second game Tuesday night at Jamesville.
