Eliza R. Wiggins

GATES – Eliza Virginia Riddick Wiggins, 79, died June 18, 2005.

A funeral was conducted Wednesday in the Apostolic Holiness Church, Sunbury. Stallings Funeral Chapel, Gatesville, was in charge.

Jeanette Vandiford

PENDLETON n Jeanette Byrum Vandiford, 64, a native of Bertie County, and formerly of Murfreesboro, died June 18, 2005 at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.

A funeral was conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Chapel of Massey Funeral Home by the Rev. Wint Hale. Burial followed the service. Massey Funeral Home, Aulander, was in charge. Condolences may be sent to the family at masseyfuneralhom@netscape.net.

Mrs. Vandiford was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, James "Mike" Vandiford; two sons, Michael Ray Vandiford of Powellsville and Brian Allen Vandiford of Pendleton; her father, George Byrum of Murfreesboro; three sisters, Shirley Grizzard of Ahoskie, Peggy White of Murfreesboro and Lennie Williams of Aulander; and three grandchildren.

Everett K. Veach Jr.

SCOTLAND NECK n Everett Kermit Veach, Jr., 73, died Tuesday, June 21, 2005.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 23, 2005 at Sunnyside Cemetery in Scotland Neck. The Reverend Roger Cope will be presiding.

Kermit was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy where he served as a Lieutenant Fighter Pilot. After his retirement he moved back to Scotland Neck. He was a member of the Scotland Neck Masons, the Scotland Neck Kiwanis Club, and the Scotland Neck United Methodist Church.

Kermit was preceded in death by his wife, Sue Ullery Veach; and his parents, E.K. and Evelyn Veach. He is survived by his son, Glen Murray Gallagher and wife Cathy of Cincinnati, OH; daughters, Candy Veach of Beaufort, Debbie Josey and husband Joey of Scotland Neck, and Kae Aycock and husband Tom of Richmond, VA; sister, Barbara V. Piland of Winton; seven grandchildren, Kevin Gallagher, Katy Gallagher, Tripp Josey, Logan Josey, Deborah Everett, Chris Aycock, and Samantha Holland; and one great-grandson, Ford Everett.

The family will receive friends after the service at the home of Debbie and Joey Josey, 7799 Mary Chapel Road, Scotland Neck, NC.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Scotland Neck Memorial Library, 1600 Main Street, Scotland Neck, NC 27874 or to the Scotland Neck United Methodist Church, 110 West 9th Street, Scotland Neck, NC 27874.

Arrangements are being handled by Letchworth Funeral Home in Scotland Neck.

Iva P. Branch

COMO n Iva Priscilla Branch, 65, a native of Baltimore, Md., died June 20, 2005 at her residence.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church Murfreesboro by the Rev. Robert D. Richardson III. Burial will be in Carver Park Cemetery. Hunter's Funeral Home, Inc., Murfreesboro, is in charge.

Mrs. Branch was a retired cook from Chowan College. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Murfreesboro.

Survivors include her husband, Thomas Branch Sr. of the home; four sons, Thomas Branch Jr. of Fayetteville, Emmett Branch of Murfreesboro, Richard Branch of Como and Terrence Branch of Hope Mills; two daughters, Geraldine Branch of Como and Sandra Branch Battle of Murfreesboro; one brother, Earl Vaughn of Brooklyn, N.Y.; four sisters, Viola Vaughan and LaVenia Ford, both of Baltimore, Md., Ethel Mae Vaughn of Jersey City, NJ and Nancy Nichols of Decatur, Ga.; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Reddie Shoulars

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. n Reddie Roberta Shoulars, 92, a native of Northampton County, died June 19, 2005 at Saint Francis Nursing Home, Newport News, Va.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Chapel Hill Baptist Church by the Rev. Ronald Taylor. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Hunter's Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, is in charge.

She was a housewife.

Survivors include a son, Moses Shoulars of Newark, N.J.; one daughter, Dorothy Ayers of Philadelphia, Pa.; one sister, Helen Whitaker of Union, N.J.; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Johnny R. Conner

AULANDER n Mr. Johnny Ray Conner, age 72, of Bruce Farmer Road, Aulander, NC, died June 21, 2005 at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.

Mr. Conner was born Oct. 21, 1932, the son of the late John Rhoden Conner and Myrtle Burkett Conner. He was a retired truck driver for Carolina Aluminum with over twenty years of service. He was preceded in death by a son, Johnny Ray Conner, Jr.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy Dunning Conner; a daughter, Brenda Brickell of Conway, NC; his sons, Wayne Meeks of Ahoskie, NC and Larry Meeks of Eure; three brothers, James Conner and his wife Barbara of Williamston, NC; Billy Conner and his wife Rose of Aulander, NC and Carroll Conner and his wife Miriam of Harrellsville, NC; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Also several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held, Friday, June 24, 2005 at 3 p.m. at Massey Funeral Home in Aulander, NC with the Rev. Earl Whittermore and the Rev. J.N. Baggett officiating. Burial will follow at Aulander Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Massey Funeral Home in Aulander, NC, Thursday from 7 until 8:30 p.m.
