Sheriff’s Office makes three arrests

Add two Hertford County residents and one Bertie County man to the list.

The list of those who have been arrested by the Hertford County Sheriff’s Office continues growing after Lt. Raymond Eure and Sgt. Will Liverman made three arrests last week.

Thursday evening saw the pair arrest Joe Edward Askew, 55, of 1018 Meadow Road in Colerain after making a traffic stop.

Askew was charged with a felony count of possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine and two other charges. They included simple possession of crack cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The suspect was taken to the Hertford County Jail where he was placed under a $25,000 secured bond. His first appearance was Friday.

Deputy Brian Pearce and Lt. Marty Davis assisted Lt. Eure and Sgt. Liverman in the arrest.

That arrest came two nights after the two and Deputy Dexter Hayes apprehended two Ahoskie people on a dirt path near Vann Road.

Jerome Jose Cross, 41, of 408 McGlohon Street in Ahoskie and Greta Lee Askew, 34, of 320 West Hayes Street in Ahoskie are each in the Hertford County Jail facing multiple charges.

Cross is facing a felony count of possession with intent to sell and deliver crack cocaine and charges of simple possession of crack cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia. Askew is facing counts of simple possession of crack cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Cross is under a $16,000 secured bond while Askew is under a $6,000 secured bond.

&uot;I commend the officers for their work,&uot; Sheriff Juan Vaughan said. &uot;They are working diligently to help our efforts to slow down the sale of drugs in Hertford County.

&uot;We also appreciate the input the citizens have given us,&uot; Vaughan said. &uot;These arrests were a result of getting phone calls from citizens about what is happening in their area.&uot;
