6th inning dooms Legion Post 102

AHOSKIE – Post 15 plated five runs in the sixth inning as they held off Ahoskie Post 102 7-5 in a Senior American Legion game here Friday night.

With Ahoskie leading 2-0, Wilson put together a huge sixth frame to take the lead. Lance Parrish had a solo homer to left, a run scored on an error, David Powell and David Bunn each had RBI singles and Justin Batts had a sacrifice fly to give Wilson a 5-2 lead.

They added a run to the advantage in the top of the seventh when a run scored on a balk and another in the top of the eighth on a Kyndall Smith RBI-groundout that pushed the lead to 7-2.

Ahoskie put another run on the board in the bottom of the eighth when Corey Castelloe reached on interference and went to second when Judd Whitehead reached on an error. Castelloe scored on a Ryan Simmons RBI-single to center to trim the lead to 7-3.

Post 102 scored two more in the bottom of the ninth. With two out, Ronald Phelps walked before Dusty Todd hit a two-run homer to center. A groundout ended the game.

Heath Britt went five and one-third innings for the loss while Whitehead pitched the final three and two-thirds.

&uot;Heath and Judd both pitched great,&uot; Post 102 skipper Randy Whitaker said. &uot;They did their job. We didn’t take advantage of our scoring opportunities.

&uot;We are showing a lot of improvement in our team,&uot; he said. &uot;We will win some games.&uot;

Post 102 had opened the scoring in the bottom of the second inning.

Jacob Bowen singled to right and went to third on a Simmons double to left. Bowen and Simmons scored on a Lance Thomas two-run double to left-centerfield.
