Moore sets camp dates

AHOSKIE – Marvin Moore is in the process of putting together his fourth annual Moore Basketball Camps.

Moore, a graduate of Hertford County High School, is currently an assistant coach at Catawba College.

The two camps are slated for late June and will be held at the Ahoskie Recreation Department gym for the second year.

The 2005 Individual Basketball Camp is for boys and girls ages seven to 15 and will be held from 8:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. on June 20-23.

The purpose of the camp is to provide a positive learning experience for the area’s youth. Emphasis will be put on fundamental skills, strategy, conditioning, techniques and individual and team defense.

Experienced instruction should help campers improve his or her skill level.

Admission to the camp will be for those ages seven to 15, but those who are admitted are expected to conform to proper behavior and to follow instructions and rules set by the camp director.

The cost of the came is $50 which includes insurance, t-shirt and instruction.

Registration will be held June 19 from 4-5:30 p.m. and on June 20 from 8-8:30 a.m.

The second camp will be the Position Play Camp for Post and Guards.

This camp is for boys and girls ages 12-18 and will be held from 1-4 p.m. June 21-23. The cost of the camp is $50, including instruction, a t-shirt and insurance.

In this camp, Moore will conduct an &uot;areas only&uot; position play for post and guards. The camp is designed to increase the awareness and skill level of those players who seek to get the best of their abilities through on-the-court and in-the-classroom sessions.

The camp is for those wanting to prepare themselves for middle school, high school and college play.

The three days will be a highly intense and specialized camp to get a better awareness of basic basketball fundamentals and strategy.

Registration will be held June 19 from 4-5:30 p.m., June 21 from 8-8:30 a.m. and June 21 from 12:30-1 p.m.

Deposits for both camps are $25 and can be sent by check or money order to Marvin Moore, 2300 West Innes Street, Salisbury, NC 28144. Deposits sent after June 13 should go to Marvin Moore, 810 Parker Avenue, Ahoskie.

Moore is a 1999 graduate of Catawba who played in Europe in Sweden and Monaco.

He was a three-time all South Atlantic Conference (SAC) performer as the Indians posted an 83-33 record and advanced to the NCAA Division II regional tournament on two occasions.

As a senior, Moore was the SAC Player of the Year, setting a league record by scoring 650 points.

He was also named all-region and All-American as well as being selected as SAC Male Athlete of the Year.
