Irene Davis

WINDSOR – Irene Scott Davis, 75, of 208 Crescent Drive in Windsor, died Tuesday, May 17, 2005 at Bertie Memorial Hospital.

She was born in Hertford County on July 5, 1929 to the late Linwood and Bessie McGlohn Scott.

Davis worked for First Union Bank as a Teller and Customer Service Representative.

She was a member of Cashie Baptist Church in Windsor, where she was the Treasurer and a member of the WMU.

She was also a member of the North Carolina Highway Patrol Women’s Auxiliary.

Survivors include sons Tommy Davis of Windsor and Bill Davis of Farmville and a brother, Ralph Scott of Clarksville, Va.

She was also survived by four grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 20, 2005 at Cashie Baptist Church with the Rev. Dennis J. Conner and the Rev. Jack W. Byrd officiating.

The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 19 at Walker Funeral Home and at other times from the Tommy Davis home in Windsor.

Walker Funeral Home of Windsor is in charge of arrangements.

Gloria Baxter

AHOSKIE – Gloria Alverter Baxter of Ahoskie died Sunday, May 15, 2005 in Ahoskie.

She was a member of Pineywood Chapel Baptist Church of Ahoskie.

Survivors include one brother, Carlton Mitchell of Ahoskie.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 21 at Pineywood Chapel Baptist Church with the Rev. Mar Speller officiating.

Burial will follow in the Liverman Family Cemetery in Bertie County.

Annie Prout

COLERAIN – Annie Slade Prout of Colerain died Monday, May 16, 2005 in Colerain.

She is survived by one brother, Marlo Chamblee Slade of Ahoskie and three sisters, Ollie Slade Lee of Colerain, Carolyn Slade Watford of Portsmouth, Va. and Ivory Slade Jordan of Ahoskie.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 21 at Wynns Grove Baptist Church in Colerain with the Rev. Thomas Lee officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Daisy Holloman

AHOSKIE – Daisy Harrell Holloman, 83, of Murfreesboro died Sunday, May 15, 2005 at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital in Ahoskie.

She is survived by eight children, Ricky A. Holloman of Como, William E. Holloman, Annie Scott and Teresa Wynn, all of Murfreesboro, Linda Turner and Alfreda Holloman, both of Charlotte, Joyce Nichols of Ivor, Va.

and Tikeyla Powell of Harrellsville. She is also survived by a sister, Dorothy Madin, of Virginia Beach, along with 36 grandchildren and 47 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, May 21 at Nebo Baptist Church with Pastor Robert Holloman officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Hertford County Undertakers is in charge of arrangements.

Rex Melton

BRONX, NY – Rex Hardy Melton, 83, died Monday, May 9, 2005 at Veteran’s Hospital in Bronx, NY.

Melton was a retired barber.

He is survived by a wife, Lucrecy (Lucy) Melton of Bronx, NY and three children, Columbian Amedee, Ricado Amedee and Michelle Amedee, all of Bronx, NY, and seven grandchildren. He is also survived by four sisters, Betty Jean Melton and Ethel Marie Ballance, both of Aulander, Louise Whitaker of Hampton, Va. and Elizabeth Cameron of Hartford, Ct.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, May 21 at Aulander First Baptist Church with the Rev. Stevie Lawrence officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
