AHOSKIE – A rash of recent break-ins at Ahoskie businesses has placed the Ahoskie Police Department on high alert.

While no arrests have been made in the criminal activity, it hasn’t slowed the efforts of the town’s Police Department in gathering information as they conduct an investigation.

&uot;All I can share with you at this point of the investigation is that we are taking these break-ins very seriously and working each case in an effort to arrest the suspect or suspects involved in these crimes, APD Chief Troy Fitzhugh said.

Fitzhugh listed the victims as L.S. Jernigan & Son, the Ahoskie Chamber of Commerce and Pierce Printing. An attempt was made to enter Swain’s Tile, but it proved unsuccessful.

The Police Chief suggested that all business owners to keep a light on within their establishments at night as well as to check and double-check all windows, doors or any other possible point of entry.

Additionally, Fitzhugh recommended installing an alarm system. For those business owners already protected by an alarm, have those systems checked periodically in order to make sure they are fully operational.
