LASKER – Northeast Academy put their bats to work Wednesday as the Eagles had 13 hits, including five in the second inning, in a 13-2 win over Terra Ceia Christian Academy.

With Northeast leading 11-2 after the top of the sixth inning, Jay Baughan led off with a single and then advanced to third on Smith’s

hit.

Sophomore Russ Flythe hit a grounder up the middle to center field, plating both base runners for the 13-2 victory.

The win advances Northeast, ranked third, to Monday’s semifinals of the Tarheel Independent Conference tournament against second seeded Hobgood Academy.

The teams split wins during the regular season.

The Eagles were led by senior Josh Jenkins, who was two-of-three from the plate with two RBIs.

John Pope, Jeremy Parker and Jud Smith all hit two-of-four, with Pope and Smith having two RBIs apiece.

After getting three quick outs in the first the Eagles wasted no time getting in the scoring column.

Parker led off with a single then advanced to second after a Knights error.

He crossed home plate after Pope hit a fly to right field. With Pope on second, Hunter Deloatch doubled to center field to get the RBI.

Deloatch advanced to third after an error on the pitcher and scored when Baughan popped a fly to center field for a 3-0 Northeast lead.

Two Terra Ceia players got on base in the second but Pope threw three of his nine strikeouts to hold the Knights scoreless.

Northeast would not be held scoreless in the second as Jenkins singled, stole second and third, and crossed home plate on Parker’s single.

Pope hit his second double to score Parker, then crossed home on an error that got Deloatch to second.

Brodie Harrell took first after being hit by a pitch.

The Knights changed pitchers but Smith’s double plated Deloatch and Harrell for an 8-0 Eagles advantage.

Both teams were scoreless in the third.

Terra Ceia rounded the bases twice in the fourth but left two batters on base as they closed within six, 8-2.

Runs from Baughan and Smith in the fourth and Arch Harrell in the fifth stretched Northeast’s lead to nine, 11-2.

The Eagles changed pitchers at the top of the sixth, bringing junior Jeff White in to relieve Pope, who faced 22 batters.

White pitched a no-hitter in the sixth, striking out the final batter.
