CREEKSVILLE – Corrie Bridgers didn’t allow many base runners.

The ones she did allow, Lou Anne Flythe erased.

Bridgers, the freshman pitcher for Northampton-East, allowed one hit and no runs as the Lady Rams cruised to a 15-0 win over North Edgecombe here Tuesday afternoon.

In facing 11 batters over three innings, Bridgers had four strikeouts and gave up one walk in picking up the victory.

The one hit and another runner that reached by error were both thrown out by Flythe, a senior catcher, when they attempted to steal bases, helping the Lady Rams pick up their sixth Tar-Roanoke Conference win in nine outings.

&uot;Our catcher has come of age,&uot; first-year coach John Kisic said. &uot;I’ve been telling her all year that no one can run on her if she sticks to her mechanics and she’s doing that.

&uot;The rest of the team did what they had to so we can accomplish what we want to accomplish,&uot; he added.

After Bridgers and Flythe keeping the Lady Warriors off the board in the first, Northampton-East plated one run in the bottom of the same inning.

Jo Ann Rose dropped a bunt single and stole second before advancing to third on a Mindy Drewette groundout. She scored on a sacrifice fly by Amanda Bethel to give the Lady Rams a 1-0 advantage.

The second inning saw Bridgers issue one free pass and then induce a groundout to the pitcher and two strikeouts to end the inning.

The Lady Rams scored six times in the second stanza to take a comfortable lead.

Jessica Price started with a single before she stole second and third. Lacey Hilliard singled and Alicia Piland drew a walk to load the bases. Rose then singled home Price to give East a 2-0 lead.

Drewette singled and came all the way around to score on an error that cleared the basepaths and pushed the East lead to 6-0.

Flythe singled and took second on an error before scoring on a Bridgers double to right, which pushed the Lady Rams to a 7-0 cushion.

With two outs in the third, North Edgecombe got their only hit of the game, but Flythe erased the runner when she attempted to steal second.

The Lady Rams added eight runs to end the game in the third.

Price singled and scored on a Hilliard double to leftfield. Piland then walked before Rose’s bunt single sent Hilliard home and advanced Piland to second. Drewette had an infield single to load the bases.

Bethel reached on a two-base error that plated Piland and Rose. Flythe reached on an error that scored Drewette and Bethel. Bridgers then got aboard via an error before Shicole Robinson reached on a fielder’s choice that scored Flythe.

Bridgers scored the final run on an infield single.

The Lady Rams hosted Durham School of the Arts Wednesday afternoon in a game that finished too late for press time.
