Leon Simmons

AHOSKIE n Leon Simmons, 85, a native of Hertford County, died April 20, 2005 at Guardian Care Nursing Home, Ahoskie.

A funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday at Newsome Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. Richard Smallwood. Burial will be in Pleasant Plains Baptist Church cemetery. Hunter's Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, is in charge.

Simmons was a retired maintenance mechanic with Bennett Box. He was a member of Newsome Grove Baptist Church.

Survivors include a son, Earl Simmons of Murfreesboro; two daughters, Janice Hall of Ohio and Joan Robinson of West Wood, N.J.; one brother, Levi Simmons of Ahoskie; one sister, Juanita James of Cofield; 13 grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren.

Alvin A. Tann II

AHOSKIE n Alvin Alonza "Big Man" Tann II, died April 17, 2005.

A funeral will be conducted at 12 noon Saturday at Hertford County High School, Ahoskie. Burial will be in the Tann family cemetery, Ahoskie. Reynolds Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, is in charge.

Survivors include 10 sons, Jerry X. Tann Sr., Alvin A. Tann III, James V. Tann and Jeffrey A. Tann, all of Winton, Wallace E. Tann, Richard E. Tann, Latory Tann, Keith D. Tann and Phillip T. Tann, all of Ahoskie and Roosevelt M. Tann of Arbadeen, Md.; three daughters, Francine Tann and Nancy R. Tann, both of Ahoskie and Alethea Holloman of Hexlena; three brothers, Robert Tann of Harrellsville, Leroy Tann of Bowling Greene, Ky., and Willie Tann of Greensboro; five sisters, Lillian Watford and Annie M. Raynor, both of Winton, Evelyn Tann of Ahoskie, Janice Raynor of Colerain and Juanita Burke of Newport News, Va.; 32 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.

James Earl Lee

MURFREESBORO – James Earl &uot;Pete&uot; Lee, 58, of

Murfreesboro, died Thursday, April 21, 2005 at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital in Ahoskie.

Lee was a native of Hertford County and worked as a truck driver and mechanic. He was a member of Zion Grove Baptist Church in Aulander.

He is survived by wife Elaine Brewster Lee, of the home; daughter Kimberly Michelle Suarez of Windsor; stepchildren Anthony G. Brewster and Elaine Booker, both of New York; sisters Janice Bell of Woodland, Cynthia Britton of Fayetteville, Barbara Watford of Aulander, Mary Roberson of Rich Square, Lisa Lee of Elizabeth City, Brenda Lee of Ahoskie and Dorothy Johnson of Baltimore, MD.

Eight grandchildren and one great grandchild also survive Lee.

A funeral is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Sunday, April 24 at St. John 2nd Baptist Church with Rev. Lebron Britt Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Lee Family Cemetery in Woodland.

Wilder’s Funeral Home Inc. in Aulander is in charge of the arrangements.

James Craig

WINDSOR – James &uot;Jabo&uot; Craig, 88, of Windsor died Sunday, April 17, 2005.

A native of Bertie County, Craig was a WWII Army veteran and worked as a janitor and cook in New York until he retired and returned to Windsor.

A son, Earl Craig of Ahoskie, two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren survive him.

A funeral was conducted Thursday, April 21 at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Windsor with Rev. James Wrighton officiating.

Gilliam Funeral Home in Windsor was in charge of the arrangements.
