Annie H. Taylor

AHOSKIE n Annie Hendricks Taylor, 94, a native of Bertie County, died April 17, 2005 at Guardian Care Nursing Home, Ahoskie.

A funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday at Newsome Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. Richard E. Smallwood. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Wilder's Funeral Home, Inc., Aulander, is in charge.

She was a member and deaconess of Newsome Grove Baptist Church.

Survivors include a son, James Donnell Taylor; and a daughter, Belinda M. Smallwood, both of Ahoskie.

William T. Futrell

AHOSKIE n William Tony Futrell, 41, a native of Hertford County, died April 15, 2005 at Pitt Memorial Hospital, Greenville.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Zion Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. James Mercer. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Hunter's Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, is in charge.

Survivors include his parents, Charlie and Bertha Futrell of Ahoskie; six brothers, James R. Futrell, James A. Futrell, Calvin Futrell, Thomas E. Futrell and Roosevelt Robbins, all of Ahoskie and James C. Futrell of Aulander; eight sisters, Bettie Lee Futrell of St. John, Thelma Futrell and Geraldine Sessoms, both of Ahoskie, Mary Rose Futrell and Patricia Parker, both of Gates, Malinda Futrell of New York, Elizabeth Futrell of Menola and Bettie Ann Futrell of Aulander.

Mary A. Powell

BRONX, N.Y. n Mary Askew Powell, 63, a native of Bertie County, died April 16, 2005 at Bronx-Lebanon Hospital.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Metropolitan Interdenominational Church of God, Aulander, by Bishop Anthony Cherry. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Windsor. Wilder's Funeral Home, Inc., Aulander, is in charge.

Mrs. Powell was a member of Rehoboth Church of God in Christ, Bronx.

Survivors include her husband, Winslow C. Powell of Bronx; a son, Linwood Earl Powell of Aulander; a daughter, Teresa Powell of Windsor; five sisters, Gladys Cherry of Windsor, Flora Rascoe of Bayshore, NY, Mageline Lassiter of Tarboro, Evelyn Mitchell of Middletown, Conn., and Doris Sessoms of Tarboro; a brother, McClimen Askew of Bayshoro, NY; and four grandchildren.

Dorothy L. Gatling

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. n Dorothy L. Gatling, 64, a native of Gates County, died April 18, 2005 at Riverside Hospital, Newport News.

A funeral will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Stoney Branch Baptist Church by the Rev. Michael Holloman. Burial will be in the Gatling family cemetery. Hunter's Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, is in charge.

She was a retired child care provider and a member of Stoney Branch Baptist Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Simmons of Newport News; five brothers, Frank Gatling of Mt. Vernon, N.Y., Lance Gatling of Lanham, MD, James Gatling of Suffolk, Clinton Gatling of Washington, D.C., and Tyrone Gatling of Laural; five sisters, Mary Coleman of Forestville, Laura Stokes of Clinton, Dianne Britt of Glen Dale, Terry Lee of Bowie and Esther Cross of Gates; and one grandson.

Lyman Parker

MURFREESBORO – Lyman &uot;Red&uot; Parker, age 79, passed away Tuesday, April 19, 2005.

Mr. Parker was born July 25, 1925 in Northampton County to the late Adlai and Minnie Parker. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Vashti Tinkham and Lorene Slaughter.

He is survived by a brother, Stanley J. Parker, Sr. of Murfreesboro and two sisters, Gladys Baugham of Boykins, Va. and Trudy Gibson of Murfreesboro.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, April 23 at 2 p.m. at the Ashley’s Grove Baptist Church cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Garrett’s Funeral Home in Murfreesboro, Friday evening, April 22, from 7- 8:30 p.m.

Nettie L. Wilkins

AHOSKIE n Nettie Lee Wilkins, died April 20, 2005 at Guardian Care Nursing Home, Ahoskie.

Alvin A. Tann II

AHOSKIE n Alvin Alonza "Big Man" Tann II, died April 17, 2005.

A funeral will be conducted at 12 noon Saturday at Hertford County High School, Ahoskie. Burial will be in the Tann family cemetery, Ahoskie. Reynolds Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, is in charge.

Survivors include nine sons, Jerry X. Tann Sr., Alvin A. Tann III, James V. Tann and Jeffrey A. Tann, all of Winton, Wallace E. Tann, Richard E. Tann, Keith D. Tann and Phillip T. Tann, all of Ahoskie and Roosevelt M. Tann of Arbadeen, Md.; four daughters, Francine Tann, Nancy R. Tann and Latory Tann, all of Ahoskie and Alethea Holloman of Hexlena; three brothers, Robert Tann of Harrellsville, Leroy Tann of Bowling Greene, Ky., and Willie Tann of Greensboro; five sisters, Lillian Watford and Annie M. Raynor, both of Winton, Evelyn Tann of Ahoskie, Janice Raynor of Colerain and Juanita Burke of Newport News, Va.; 32 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.
