Effie S. White

CHESAPEAKE, Va. – Effie Simpson White, 88, a native of Washington, NC, died April 14, 2005, in Chesapeake. She was the widow of Stanley Ervin White.

Mrs. White was a member of South Norfolk Church of Christ.

Survivors include seven daughters, Maywood White, Blanche Thompson, Sylvia Dolan and Norma Jean Price, all of Chesapeake, Janice Herndon of Bedford, Va., Karen Tipton of Virginia Beach and Diana Hall Salem, Va.; two sons, Cecil White of Gates County, and Garland White of Lindside, W.Va.; two sisters, Esther McKenna of Gloucester, Va., and Ruth Mattox of Chesapeake; a brother, Carlton Simpson of Gloucester; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 12:30 p.m. Saturday in South Norfolk Church of Christ with Pastor John Keane. Burial will be in Rosewood Memorial Park, Virginia Beach. Annette R. Copley

ELIZABETH CITY – Annette Julia Rogers Copley, 84, a native of Suffolk, Va., died April 13, 2005, at her residence. She was the widow of John B. Copley.

Mrs. Copley was a retired schoolteacher for Gates County and Pasquotank County public school system.

Survivors include one daughter, Janne Copley Mills of Elizabeth City; one son, David Kenneth Copley of Elizabeth City; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday in Christ Episcopal Church, Elizabeth City by the Rev. Jim McGee. Willie Mae Majette

PORTSMOUTH, Va. – Willie Mae "Mommie" Majette, 77, a native of Sunbury, died April 13, 2005, at her home.

Mrs. Majette retired as a nurse from Maryview Hospital. She was a faithful member of New Mount Olivet Baptist Church for 57 years having served as a deaconess, past president of the Pastoral Ministry, choir member and many other functions of the church. She was also a member of the Household of Ruth 5927.

Survivors include her husband, Glen L. Majette Jr.; children, Marilyn Y. Hill, Gwendolyn J. Majette, Angela D. Hinton,

all of Portsmouth and Pastor Valerie E. Perry of Watertown, N.Y.; three sisters, Frances N. Knight and Thelma C. Norman, both of Portsmouth and Carolyn E. Norman of Philadelphia, Pa.; an adopted brother, Dennis Griffin of Greensboro; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday in New Mount Olivet Baptist Church, Portsmouth, by the Rev. Milton R. Blount. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Chesapeake. Corprew Funeral Home, Portsmouth chapel, is in charge. The body will be taken to the church at 1 p.m. Saturday. Dennis Pryce

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Dennis Pryce, a native of Wales, United Kingdom, died April 14, 2005 at Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital.

Pryce served in the Navy during World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Doris Pryce; his daughters, Jayne Frei of Ahoskie and Nancy Pryce Black of Silverthorne, Colo.; a sister, Phyllis Turpin of Lakeland, Fla.; and six grandchildren.

A celebration service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at London Bridge Baptist Church, 2460 Potters Road, Virginia Beach. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Highland Memorial Gardens on Hwy. 13 South, Ahoskie. Horace Spivey Sr.

COFIELD n Horace Randolph Spivey Sr., 78, a native of Bertie County, died April 12, 2005 at his residence.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Philippi Baptist Church, Cofield, by the Rev. William C. Clark. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Wilder's Funeral Home, Inc., Aulander, is in charge.

Spivey was retired from Norfolk Naval Shipyard as a transportation specialist. He was honorable discharged from the US Army, Masonic member and deacon at Philippi Baptist Church. He was also a Sunday school teacher and member of the choir.

He was a town Councilman and volunteer fireman.

Survivors include his wife, Doris King Spivey of the home; sons, Melvin Lee Spivey, Horace Randolph Spivey Jr. and James A. Spivey, all of Cofield, Earl L. Spivey of Brooklyn, N.Y.; daughters, Dorothy L. Spivey of Brooklyn, N.Y., Connie M. Spivey and Angela F. Jordan, both of Cofield; sisters, Lalia Sutton of Cofield and Cordelia Taylor of Queens; a brother, Leroy Spivey of Queens; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Nannie D. Clark

ROANOKE RAPIDS n Nannie "Nunnie", "Noot Noot" Daughtry Clark, 82, a native of Northampton County, died April 13, 2005 at Halifax Regional Medical Center.

A funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday at Massey Funeral Home, Roanoke Rapids, by Minister Randy Martin. Burial will be in Greensville Memorial Cemetery, Emporia, Va.

Survivors include two daughters, Vivian Deane Massey Helton of Brevard and Doris C. Ferguson of Skippers; her brothers, Romie "Ike" Daughtry and Luther "Goose" Daughtry, both of Roanoke Rapids; her sisters, Clarice "Sis" Vick and Dorothy "Dot" Robbins, both of Roanoke Rapids; five grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

AHOSKIE n Clarence Willie Vaughan, died April 13, 2005 at Guardian Care Nursing Home, Ahoskie.

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. n Benjamin Franklin Edwards, 87, died April 12, 2005 at Lankenau Hospital.
