MARGARETTESVILLE – A Margarettsville teen was arrested for allegedly raping a 17 year-old female from the Garysburg area.

Deangelo Mason, 16, was placed in the Northampton County Jail under a $25,000 secured bond after a warrant led to his arrest April 11.

According to Northampton County Detective Brenda Burnette, the alleged crime was reported by Halifax Regional Medical Center who contacted the Sheriff’s Office following treatment of the young woman.

&uot;When we went over to the hospital to interview her, but she couldn’t tell us more than the suspect’s first name,&uot; Burnette said.

Subsequently, Burnette spoke with another individual who had allegedly been hanging out with them and learned the suspect’s last name.

The crime allegedly took place while Mason was giving the young woman a ride home. The suspect and the victim were acquaintances.

Mason’s first appearance was April 14. He is scheduled for a probable cause hearing May 5.
