Rams rout Raiders

AHOSKIE – Gavin Mizelle pitched a two-hitter as Ridgecroft rolled over Hobgood Academy 11-1 here Friday afternoon.

The Rams opened the scoring with a single run in the bottom of the first frame. Jeremy Courtright walked and stole second before scoring on a Mizelle double to left-centerfield.

The Raiders tied the game in the top of the second on a Jeremy Joyner RBI-single that made it 1-all.

Ridgecroft took the lead for good with four runs in the bottom of the third inning. Courtright singled to left before Mizelle walked, setting up a three-run homer off the bat of senior Wes Ward. It was Ward’s sixth homer of the season.

Giffin Daughtridge singled to center and went to third on a Hill Homewood single to rightfield. Daughtridge scored on a Chris Mizelle RBI-single to give the Rams a 5-1 advantage.

The final six runs of the contest were scored in the bottom of the fifth frame.

Homewood walked and went to third on a C. Mizelle single to right. Homewood scored on a Dustin Baker RBI-single. Courtright then walked to load the bases. C. Mizelle scored on an Ian Kinlaw walk that forced home the run.

Courtesy runner Henry Jones scored on a G. Mizelle walk. Courtright and Kinlaw then scored on wild pitches before G. Mizelle took third and scored on a wild pitch to end the game.

G. Mizelle went five innings for the win, allowing one run on two hits while striking out seven.

The Rams had 10 hits, led by G. Mizelle, C. Mizelle and Daughtridge, who had two hits each.

The Rams are now 8-3 overall and have the same mark inside the Tarheel Independent Conference. They will host Terra Ceia Christian School today at 3:30 p.m.
