LASKER – Northeast Academy rallied from a 5-0 deficit and beat Terra Ceia Christian School 9-5 in a Tarheel Independent Conference baseball game here Thursday afternoon.

The Knights opened the scoring with five runs in the top of the second and led 5-0 early.

The Eagles got on the board in the bottom of the second inning to begin their comeback.

Eddie Marriner walked and stole second to get things started. Will McLawhorn delivered an RBI-single to center to score Marriner and then went to second because of an error on the play.

McLawhorn came around to score on a Chris Carrothers RBI-single to center to trim the Knights’ lead to 5-2.

The Eagles added five in the bottom of the third to take the lead for good.

Tyler Davis walked and went to second on a Marriner groundout before scoring on a McLawhorn RBI-single to rightfield. McLawhorn then stole second and third before Drew Pinnix walked and stole second. Both runners scored on a Carrothers two-run single to center, which tied the game.

Jason Brinkley walked before Carrothers and Brinkley both scored on a Rich Edwards two-run double to right-centerfield, giving NEA a 7-5 advantage.

The Eagles scored their final two runs in the bottom of the sixth stanza.

Justin Mize singled to left before Craig Minton and Davis walked to load the bases. Marriner then hit a two-run single to left, establishing the 9-5 advantage.

Mize pitched four innings for the win, allowing five runs on five hits and striking out four.

Pinnix threw the final three innings, allowing no runs on two hits and striking out four.

The win came on the heels of a Monday afternoon thumping of Pungo Christian Academy.

Northeast scored at least one run in every inning to grab a 16-11 victory. McLawhorn picked up the pitching win, giving up four hits and no earned runs.

Jeremy Canady had a 2-for-4 day against the Raiders while Chase Vaughan was 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs.

NEA, now 6-4 overall and 5-2 in the TIC, will return to action today when they play a doubleheader at Hobgood Academy starting at 2 p.m.
