Clarice J. Pritchard

ROXOBEL — Clarice Jones Pritchard, died March 20, 2005, at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie. She was the widow of Alsey High Pritchard.

Mrs. Pritchard was a retired teller with Southern Bank.

A graveside service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday at Roxobel-Kelford Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home and other times at the home of Dianne Harrington. Massey Funeral Home, Aulander, is in charge.

Survivors include a son, Joseph Pritchard of Winston-Salem; a daughter, Dianne P. Harrington of Lewiston; one sister, Elaine Jones Powell of Woodland; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Ronald V. Riddick

GATES n Ronald V. Riddick, 55, a native of Gates County, died March 17, 2005 at Hampton VA Medical Center.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday at New Hope Baptist Church by the Rev. James K. Brown. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Hunter's Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, is in charge.

Riddick was retired from the US Army. He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church.

He is survived by a brother, Donald Riddick of Gates.

Mae L. Collier

LASKER n Mae Lassiter Collier, 88, a native of Northampton County, died March 19, 2005 at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie. She was the widow of Robert L. Collier.

A funeral was conducted Monday at New Hope United Methodist Church, Lasker, by the Rev. Paul Lee. Memorial contributions may be made to New Hope United Methodist Church, 1 South Street, Lasker, NC 27845. Sykes Funeral Service, Rich Square, was in charge.

Mrs. Collier was a member of New Hope United Methodist Church, Lasker. She was the Postmaster of the town of Lasker from 1969 until 1984.

Survivors include her daughter, Linda C. Doughtie of Lasker; her sister, Anne L. Emory of Rich Square; her brother, Claudie W. Lassiter of Rich Square; one step-grandson; and four step great-grandchildren.

Thomas B. Winborne

RALEIGH n Thomas Brodie Winborne, a native of Murfreesboro, died March 18, 2005.

Winborne attended Virginia Episcopal School and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, class of 1942, where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon. He served during World War II in the United States Army Air Corps in the European Theater. After his return from the service, Mr. Winborne worked for the North Carolina Insurance Rating Bureau. He continued his profession in the insurance industry as the Director of the Division of Insurance for the North Carolina State Board of Education.

He served as president of the Carolina Country Club and the Rotary Club of Raleigh and on the Board of Trustees at Virginia Episcopal School. He was also active at Christ Episcopal Church, Terpsichorean Club, the Circle Club, the Sphinx Club, the Capital Cotillion, and the Nine O’clock Cotillion.

Survivors include his wife, Jean Wire Winborne; daughters, Jean Winborne Boyles and Elma Winborne Davis, both of Raleigh; and son, Thomas Brodie Winborne, Jr. of Winston Salem; six grandchildren; sisters, Mrs. William K. Woltz of Mount Airy and Mrs. Reynold Tucker of Southern Pines; and a brother, the Honorable Samuel Pretlow Winborne of Atlantic.

A memorial service was held at Christ Episcopal Church Monday. Private burial was held at Oakwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Virginia Episcopal School P.O. Box 408 Lynchburg, Virginia 24505-0408 and Christ Episcopal Church P.O. Box 25778 Raleigh, North Carolina 27611. Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, Saint Mary’s St., was in charge.

Baby Girl Camya L. Manley

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. n Baby Girl Camya Lynn Manley, died Thursday, March 17, 2005 at Sentara Virginia Beach, Va., Hospital, Virginia Beach, Va.

Survivors include her parents, Caddares Lemuel Manley and Reshamah Dawn Taylor Manley, both of Virginia Beach, VA; grandparents, Oscar Lemuel Manley Sr. and Margaret Manley, both of Winton, NC; and Gail Taylor of Ahoskie, NC; great-grandparents, Josephine Beverly Winborne of Harrellsville, NC, and

Jessie Taylor of Ahoskie, NC; three uncles, Kevin Levon Winborne of Winton, NC, Deon Taylor of Sterling, VA, and Michael Taylor of Fort Bragg, VA; and one aunt, Lashanna Taylor of Ahoskie, NC.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 22, 2005 at St. Marks AME Church, Virginia Beach, Va., by the Rev. V.L. Ricks Sr. Burial will be in Phillipi Baptist Church Cemetery, Cofield, NC. Reynolds Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, is in charge of arrangements.

Camya only wore pink. Her parents ask if you attend the funeral service, if you would wear pink in memory of their baby girl.

Lorraine Neal

ROCKY MOUNT- Lorraine Neal, died March 19, 2005 at Nash General Hospital, Rocky Mount.

Dorothy Marshall

AHOSKIE n Dorothy Marshall, died March 21, 2005 at Guardian Care Nursing Home, Ahoskie.

Lillie Wynn

LEWISTON n Lillie Audrey Mitchell Wynn, died March 19, 2005 at her residence.

A funeral will be conducted at 12 noon Friday at Conoconary Baptist Church, Aulander, by the Rev. Alton Edwards. Burial will be in the Wynn family cemetery. Reynolds Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, is in charge.

Mrs. Wynn was a member of Conoconary Baptist Church, Aulander.

Survivors include one son, Frank W. Wynn Jr. of Lewiston; one daughter, Thelma W. Watson of Lewiston; one sister, Pauline Wynn of Ahoskie; one stepsister, Ruth Mitchell of Newport News, Va.; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Thurgood S. Melton

CHEVERLY, Md. n Thurgood Stanton Melton, a native of Hertford County, died March 19, 2005 in Prince George's Hospital.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday at Phillipi Baptist Church by the Rev. Edward Melton. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Reynolds Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, is in charge.

Melton was a member of Phillipi Baptist Church, Cofield.

Survivors include his wife, Juanita T. Melton of Charlotte; one stepdaughter, Maxine Moore of Chesapeake, Va.; one brother, the Rev. Edward Melton of Hampton, Va.; and two sisters, Julia Whitaker of Cofield and Della M. Porter of Capital Heights.

Edmund W. Drake

CONWAY n Mr. Edmund Wallace Drake, age 78, of Creeksville Rd., Conway, NC, died March 20, 2005 at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital in Ahoskie, NC.

Mr. Drake was born Nov. 14, 1926 in Hertford Co., NC, the son of the late Claude Drake and Zola Mae Edwards Drake. He was also preceded in death by his son, Edmund Wallace "Eddie" Drake Jr. He was a World War II Army veteran and a member of Creeksville Baptist Church where he had served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher and a former superintendent of Sunday School. He was a farmer.

Survivors include his wife of fifty-six years, Faye Draper Drake. His daughters, Cindy D. Belch and her husband, Mike of Conway, NC and Connie D. Guess and her husband, Bobby of Hickory, NC. His brothers, James Drake of Como, NC and Dr. Claude W. Drake of Chapel Hill, NC. Three grandchildren, Brandon Belch, Nelia Guess and Carl Guess.

Funeral services will be held, Wednesday, March 23, 2005 at 2 p.m. at Creeksville Baptist Church with Dr. Brian Detrick and Dr. H. Dennis Draper, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Creeksville Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Massey Funeral Home in Jackson, NC, Tuesday from 7 until 9 p.m. and other times at the home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Creeksville Baptist Church Scholarship Fund.

Ellie J. Brett

SEVERN n Ellie Johnson Brett, age 88, a native of Northampton County, died March 21, 2005 at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie. She was the widow of Euclid Brett.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Severn Cemetery, Seven, by the Rev. Tim Hogan. The family will receive friends at Massey Funeral Home, Jackson, from 7 until 8:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Severn Baptist Church.

Mrs. Brett was a member of Severn Baptist Church.

Survivors include a son, N. Wayne Brett of Halifax; and two grandsons.

Esther Brown

POWELLSVILLE n Esther Lee White Brown, 84, a native of Bertie County, died March 20, 2005 at her residence.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday at Wynn's Grove Baptist Church by Bishop Thomas Lee. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Hunter's Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, is in charge.

Mrs. Brown was a member of Wynn's Grove Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons, Clamon D. Brown and Lenton Brown, both of Powellsville; one daughter, the Rev. Mary Drake of Powellsville; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
